THE POSITION
Join the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as an Environmental Group Manager and support a team dedicated to safeguarding natural resources! You will lead staff who monitor conditions, enforce environmental laws, and collaborate with partners across the region. DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis role oversees a team that manages conservation, restoration, inspection, and compliance work for waterways, wetlands, agriculture, and related environmental programs. It requires coordination across multiple offices, consistent communication, and strong leadership in program operations. As an Environmental Group Manager, you will perform the following duties:
- Staff Communication:
Ensure staff stay informed about policies, initiatives, and guidance that support effective work - Program Coordination:
Work with multiple offices to maintain consistency in waterways, wetlands, and agricultural programs - Compliance Oversight:
Guide staff as they conduct inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities across assigned programs - Data Management:
Use and ensure staff use DEP databases to record information accurately and promptly - Public Interaction:
Provide information to officials, regulated entities, and community groups as needed - Supervisory Leadership:
Assign tasks, review work, handle personnel matters, and support professional development for staff

Work Schedule and Additional Information- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel required as needed.
- Telework:
You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

- A bachelor’s degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; and five years of professional environmental protection experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license.
- You must possess and maintain a REAL passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
