About the position: NCAAT is seeking a full-time Chief of Staff to lead and oversee individuals who lead teams of community organizers, policy advocates, communications professionals, and voter specialists. The Chief of Staff will ensure each team has clarity of role and vision to ensure they are able to address issues and develop campaigns that build collective power, foster leadership, and increase the representation of Asian American communities across North Carolina.
The role requires strong management skills, the ability to troubleshoot challenges as they arise, and a deep understanding of resource allocation, effective time management, and fostering partnerships within multiracial and multiethnic coalitions. Reporting to the Executive Director and a member of the Executive Team, this candidate should be well-versed in best practices for both project and team management; create a culture of respect and belonging, ensuring that every team member feels valued and heard;
and foster a leadership style rooted in the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. As a leader overseeing a team of up to four direct reports, this role is critical in guiding and empowering staff to build stronger connectivity, cohesion, and collaboration across the organization, ensuring that the mission and values are reflected in everything NCAAT does.
In essence, we are seeking an individual who can assess how best to use the Executive Director's time. This individual will ensure the most critical work and decisions are elevated while handling other decisions, be a communicator who can link different departments and teams, and be an impartial broker when the Executive Director needs a wide-ranging view from a confidant and through partner while staying above the fray.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support the Executive Director on strategic leadership, prioritization, and communication
- Serve as a trusted thought partner, confidant, and problem-solver
- Serve as the "go-to" when immediate issues/needs arise and propose implementable solutions.
- Elevate strategic decision points, taking into account overall goals and the team's perspectives. Ensure responsive decision-making.
- Steer and advise on where the Executive Director's time should be dedicated
- Work closely with the Executive Director's EA to manage competing priorities and meeting requests, allocating time and attention. This includes ensuring that the Executive Director's involvement in projects or decision-making processes occurs at key times when her input and authority are most needed.
- Accompany or represent ED at internal and external meetings to stay up to date, spot opportunities for communication or action, and ensure timely follow-through
- Support organization-wide meetings and efforts, ensuring that the Executive Director's vision and priorities for team culture and operations are implemented
- Lead and guide the entire staff while directly supervising Senior Directors and a few program leads, providing ongoing guidance, visionary direction, and motivation to drive success and foster a collaborative, high-energy team environment.
