Traffic Signal Shop Supervisor

The City of Salem is in search of a Traffic Signal Shop Supervisor to join the team! As the Traffic Signal Supervisor, you will provide professional, technical, and administrative leadership managing the City's traffic signal operations and maintenance programs. This position oversees the team responsible for maintenance and operation of the City's traffic signal and streetlight systems which are critical to public infrastructure, safety, and community service. The role includes supervision of technical and skilled staff, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and managing program budgets and resources.

As a key member of the Traffic Engineering team, you will partner with leadership in Traffic Engineering to lead and support the Traffic Signal Electricians. This role offers opportunities for professional development and technical growth through collaborative projects and partnerships with various stakeholders across the City.

What you will do:

Reporting to the City Traffic Engineer, the Traffic Signal Supervisor will provide professional and technical leadership in managing the City's traffic signal system operations and projects. This role involves supervising staff, overseeing complex traffic signal programs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while coordinating with internal teams and external agencies.

Additional information on job responsibilities:

  • Support Traffic Signal Operations:
    Oversee and maintain traffic signal systems to ensure optimal performance, including routine inspections, troubleshooting, and adjustments to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Collaboration with Agencies:
    Work collaboratively with external agencies, including Keizer, Marion County, and ODOT, to ensure effective signal maintenance and operations in accordance with the Traffic Control Center Grant Agreement.
  • Project Coordination:
    Coordinate with the Engineering Department and Traffic Signal Electricians on capital projects, providing technical support throughout the design and construction phases.
  • Traffic Signal Review:
    Assist in reviewing traffic signal elements during the development process, ensuring compliance with City standards and regulations.
  • Community Engagement:
    Represent the Traffic Signal Crew team at project meetings and respond to community concerns related to traffic signal operations.
  • Additional Duties:
    Perform other traffic signal tasks as needed to support departmental goals and priorities.

What are the minimum qualifications?

  • Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana).
  • Must have an Oregon driver license and a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field to program assignment (i.e., biology, business management, engineering, environmental sciences, etc.), and five years of supervisory experience in a related field, or any combination of education, experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.

Preferred qualifications:

  • General Journeyman Electrician License
