Juvenile Probation Supervisor (Open)

This classification level is responsible for managing, training and supervising daily activities and employees within a specialized unit, district field service division. Responsibilities may include supervising assigned unit probation officer staff; conducting presentence/predisposition reports and/or supervising an active caseload in accordance with rules and standards; assisting in completing case file reviews; supervise/review case plans to ensure tracking and management of goals;

working with treatment providers within the community; supervising the investigation of violations and discussing sanctions; monitor the conduct of cognitive group therapy meetings; supervise the conducting of drug tests; review prepared probationer progress reports; arresting or detaining probationers per statute; performing field and home visits for assessment and reassessment.

Location and Office Coverage:

This position will cover the Sarpy and Cass Counties Juvenile division.

Home Office: 1410 Wall St Suite 100, Bellevue, NE 68005

Travel Expectations:

  • Regular travel within the district to conduct community visits and support operations as part of our commitment to active community supervision.
  • Occasional regional travel for orientation, training, and educational workshops.

Work Schedule:

Primarily day shift, with occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays required.

Salary and Compensation:

  • Starting Salary: $66,495.93 annually (Hiring Rate).
  • Immediate Growth*:
    Earn a 2.5% pay increase after successfully completing your probation period (if starting at Hiring Rate).
  • Starting Rate Flexibility:
    Higher starting pay may be considered based on education and experience, subject to final management approval.
    • * Please Note:

      Candidates approved to start above the Hiring Rate (at or above the Minimum Permanent rate) are not eligible for the 2.5% post-probation increase.
  • Future Increases:
    Annual cost-of-living adjustments (applied on July
    1) are subject to State Legislature approval.

Job Duties

  • Supervises assigned probation unit staff to include planning, prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; coordinating staff training; and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
  • Manages and directs day-to-day probation operations and functions for the assigned specialized unit; ensures conformance to work standards, operating procedures, and system policies.
  • Conducts presentence/predisposition reports and/or supervise an active caseload in accordance with system rules and regulations.
  • Trains probation staff within a specialized unit, district field service division or satellite office, in practices, policies and procedures associated with the supervision and investigation of offenders and monitor their compliance with system standards.
  • Evaluates lower-level staff case plans and intervention strategies; ensures a standard of quality and compliance in approved strategies; provides guidance to lower-level staff regarding challenging or unique cases.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications :
    • Education:

      Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, criminal justice, or related fields, AND
    • Experience:

      7 years' experience working in a probation system or related organization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Note:

    An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.
  • Knowledge

    • Criminal Justice system, laws, legal codes, and court procedures.
    • Interview and Assessment procedures and practices.
    • Intervention policies and procedures.
    • Signs of various forms of abuse, mental health issues, or neglect.

    • Computers and related software applications.

    • Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective when interacting with individuals who may be distressed, resistant, or adversarial.
