Job Profile Under the general direction of the Manager of Finance and Administration, the Assistant Controller is responsible for the delivery of core accounting and administrative services, and supporting lines of business within the Water and Waste Department. This position is currently assigned to the Solid Waste Services Division. The Assistant Controller is responsible for the supervision and training of accounting and clerical staff, the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures and internal controls, landfill billing, and the day to day accounting.
The successful candidate will have the business acumen and professional skills to administer budget and forecast processes, and is responsible for the detailed analysis of operating results and projections. This position is also responsible for ensuring that the departmental administrative and accounting processes are in accordance with City standards and accounting policy, ensuring high level of data integrity and customer service.
As The Assistant Controller, You Will Lead the accounting function to ensure financial information is accurate and produced in a timely manner.
Lead the administrative support function to ensure effective delivery of landfill billing and production, and weigh master services.
Lead the implementation of best practices in all areas of finance and administration and provide direction and leadership to staff.
Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place and operating effectively to safeguard the integrity of financial systems and assets.
Direct the year end audit activities, including preparation of fund and associated reserves financial statements for Departmental Division.
Administer the budgeting and forecasting processes for Departmental Division.
Lead activity based costing for Departmental Division rates and interpretation of financial results.
Provide leadership, direction and advice in procurement of goods and services.
Ensure departmental accounting practices are in accordance with City policy and Canadian GAAP.
Lead related credit card payment processing ensuring internal control and adherence to City standards including PCI compliance.
