Role Description The General Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in Chapel Hill, NC, with on-site studio responsibilities and some work-from-home flexibility for administrative tasks. This role oversees daily studio operations, including staff scheduling, class coverage, facility upkeep, and adherence to brand standards. The General Manager leads and coaches the team, manages performance, and fosters a positive, inclusive culture for employees and members.
Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring sales and membership metrics, driving new member acquisition and retention, coordinating local marketing efforts, and ensuring exceptional customer service at all touchpoints. The General Manager also manages budgets, reporting, and compliance, and collaborates with ownership and instructors to develop programming and events that support community engagement and business growth.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership and people management abilities, including team coaching, performance oversight, and conflict resolution.
- Experience in customer service and client relationship management, ideally in fitness, hospitality, or retail environments.
- Business and operational skills such as scheduling, budgeting, reporting, and process improvement.
- Sales and marketing experience, including membership sales, local outreach, and basic digital or social media promotion.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Comfort working with studio management software, common office tools, and basic data analysis for decision-making.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends as studio needs require.
- Prior experience in fitness studio management, retail management, or a related supervisory role is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in business, management, or related fields is a plus.
