Federal A​/E Project Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Federal A/E Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of architectural, engineering, and facility projects for federal clients in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. This client-facing position serves as a primary day-to-day interface with federal clients and manages a portfolio of concurrent projects from initial assignment and scope definition through design, construction administration, and closeout.

The Project Manager is accountable for project scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality, risk, and client expectations while leading multidisciplinary architectural and engineering teams and specialty consultants. Projects will vary in size, complexity, discipline, and stage of completion and may involve existing, occupied, secure, historic, and operationally sensitive facilities.

The successful candidate will combine strong A/E project-management capabilities with practical knowledge of design and construction, excellent client-service skills, and the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities. This role offers a hybrid work setup, combining remote work from home with regular, in‑person presence at client facilities throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The following in exhaustive list of duties represents a sample of work routinely performed by this role:

• Serve as a primary day-to-day point of contact for assigned federal clients, including Contracting Officer’s Representatives (CORs), facility representatives, project stakeholders, and other Government personnel.
• Build trusted client relationships by understanding client needs, managing expectations, maintaining clear communication, and proactively identifying issues that could affect successful project delivery.
• Lead project kickoff meetings, design reviews, progress meetings, and other client coordination activities, clearly documenting decisions, actions, risks, and required Government input.
• Support scope development, fee proposals, amendments, and additional-service requests when required.

• Manage multiple concurrent federal A/E projects from initial assignment through design, construction, and closeout.
• Establish and maintain project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, work plans, deliverables, and project documentation.
• Monitor consultant performance against established scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and quality expectations and proactively address performance issues.
• Coordinate project assignments across architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, code/life safety, cost estimating, historic preservation, and other specialty disciplines.
• Maintain visibility across the assigned project portfolio, including project priorities, current phase, upcoming milestones, Government reviews, open decisions, risks, and staffing requirements.
• Coordinate project initiation and confirm client requirements, available information, required disciplines, deliverables, design milestones, construction budgets, and schedule before significant design effort begins.
