The Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) is dedicated to enhancing and rehabilitating salmon production in southern Southeast Alaska to provide the optimum social and economic benefit to salmon users.

SSRAA is seeking a qualified and motivated professional to serve as Hatchery Manager at our Neets Bay Hatchery.

Reporting to the Operations Manager
, the Hatchery Manager is responsible for directing all aspects of hatchery operations at Neets Bay.

Neets Bay is a remote, multi-species salmon hatchery located approximately 30 air miles north of Ketchikan, Alaska
. The facility integrates both freshwater and saltwater fish culture and operates year‑round with a permanent staff of approximately 8–10 employees and an additional seasonal staff of 6–8 employees
.

The facility cultures approximately:

• 140 million chum salmon annually
• 3.2 million coho salmon annually

This is a remote position requiring year‑round, on‑site living at the Neets Bay facility.

The Hatchery Manager will provide overall leadership and direction for hatchery operations, including:

• Directing day‑to‑day hatchery operations
• Overseeing freshwater and saltwater fish culture activities
• Leading and supervising permanent and seasonal staff
• Mentoring and developing employees
• Fostering positive working relationships across the organization
• Supporting facility and equipment maintenance
• Ensuring efficient and effective production‑scale hatchery operations

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Strong leadership and supervisory skills
• A solid foundation in hatchery operations
• Demonstrated experience successfully leading and supervising personnel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of facility and equipment maintenance
• Ability to develop staff and maintain positive working relationships throughout the organization

• Minimum of four years of experience in production-scale hatcheries
• Experience at the Assistant Manager level or higher

• Two-year degree in fish culture or a related field
• Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

Because Neets Bay is a remote facility, the position requires year‑round, on‑site living. SSRAA provides furnished rental housing
, with utilities included.
