The Membership Retention & Email Marketing Manager renews existing and lapsed members through traditional marketing channels such as direct mail, email, and other digital initiatives. This includes mail and email project management, overseeing management of weekly email deployments, and creating and updating experience fragments in Adobe Experience Manager. The role executes campaigns, manages complex, detailed operational work, strategizes, designs, and executes tests to improve member response, and collaborates closely with key business partners to ensure coordination and smooth execution of tests and campaigns.

The manager monitors and analyzes campaign performance, adjusting strategies to align with evolving market trends and competitive conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Supports internal and/or external teams and clients by creating proposals, presentations, and other materials using product/program information, data, and media insights, and assists with planning, creation, and execution of various strategic marketing communications.
  • Consults and collaborates with cross‑functional teams, colleagues, and leadership to deliver effective programs and other client offerings that advance organizational goals.
  • Monitors the competitive landscape and market trends to identify new opportunities for the organization to shape products, programs, and/or services most relevant to the target audience.
  • Provides guidance on marketing best practices and campaign strategies to colleagues and/or external partners as necessary, advising campaign stakeholders about next steps, opportunities, and risks based on best practices and lessons learned.
  • Observes, reviews, and measures campaign outcomes, proactively elevating lessons learned to key stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in direct response marketing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in direct response marketing strategies is essential, particularly in campaign execution, tracking, and reporting. Proven success with direct mail and email campaigns to drive orders and retention.
  • Hands‑on experience using Adobe Experience Manager preferred.
  • Proficiency in analytics is critical, with the ability to design and execute A/B and multivariate testing, and experience in campaign reporting tools such as BI and Tableau preferred. The ability and curiosity to learn new marketing and analytics tools are crucial.
  • Tangible experience using machine learning and content resources to deliver personalized 1‑to‑1 experiences is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills for managing project matrices and summarizing reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively.

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
