Job Summary

The Communications Coordinator provides professional skills and oversight across communications, journalism, web development, and marketing. This role is responsible for organizing and executing communications and marketing activities in support of a large department or executive office. The Coordinator supports the design, implementation, measurement, and optimization of marketing and communication plans and programs, with long- and short-term strategies that support institutional priorities and business goals, while contributing to the building of the University brand.

Core

Responsibilities
  • Provides oversight, direction, and coordination for communications and marketing functions of the division of Student Success.
  • Develops communications, public relations, and marketing programs, determining appropriate communications outlets and events to increase knowledge and exposure for the division of Student Success.
  • Serves as the editor for all communications and publications. Writes, edits, formats, and assembles documents and publications for the division of Student Success, ensuring compliance with University standards and requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, emails, news articles, press releases, newsletters, social media, grant narratives, and web materials.
  • Serves as the website coordinator for the division of Student Success. Develops, maintains, and updates websites; coordinates updates, content reviews, and revisions; performs testing and quality control; ensures websites comply with University, System, and State mandates, guidelines, and legislation.
  • Works with University Publications to create a uniform image and brand in support of the University’s values and strategic priorities.
  • Develops and maintains internal communications networks within the division of Student Success and the University community.
  • Collects, compiles, and edits data from employee and student audience feedback as well as Institutional Research for use in promotional materials or grant proposals.
  • Collects and compiles photographs for promotional materials.
  • Creates and maintains slide decks, templates and data repository for use in division presentations, publications, and proposals.
  • Develops strategies for promoting division programs, services, and opportunities for campus involvement.
  • Develops digital and print collateral and other multimedia elements as needed.
  • Researches and summarizes information.
  • Writes briefings, speeches, and presentations.
  • Attends meetings and serves on committees.
  • Ensures all communications comply with University, System, State and Federal mandates, guidelines, and legislation.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of public relations, communications, writing/editing, marketing, web publishing or related work experience.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a higher education, government, or nonprofit environment.
  • Experience planning and preparing internal employee communications.
  • Experience managing social media accounts.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and various desktop publishing software.
