What You’ll Do
Develop innovative strategic recommendations that effectively engage and activate specific target customer market(s) within our benefits and protection space. Provide research-based customer points of view and marketing guidance to the business. Help drive the execution of specific customer experience and marketing initiatives within the assigned target market(s). Actively promote customer insights and contribute to mapping those insights to target customer markets.
Assist in influencing leaders and decision makers at all levels to secure strategic commitment for sustainable target market experiences and education.
- Develop innovative engagement and data‑driven marketing strategies to drive positive customer emotion and demand for our products/offerings across our business owner solutions and workplace benefits solution set.
- Drive the execution of communications, marketing campaigns, initiatives and product development to help Principal grow brand preference and revenue among our target audiences.
- Cultivate a solid understanding and application of target market research, marketing and competitive trends, market dynamics and regulations.
- Track, analyze and communicate results. Use results analysis to improve future outcomes.
- Perform other job‑related duties or special projects as required.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) and at least 4+ years of related work experience.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of the marketing profession and modern marketing strategies.
- Experience building strategic marketing programs that deliver strong results.
- Ability to translate data analytics into actionable implications.
- Solid strategic and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to influence stakeholders to deliver a consistent message.
- Some travel required, including overnight stays.
- Experience with non‑qualified benefits, group benefits, individual disability or life insurance.
- Background and experience with distribution and product within the financial services industry.
- General understanding of Principal business, products and industry along with identified audience.
- General understanding of the entire customer journey with Principal, competition, market opportunities and customer experience.
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non‑sales positions may participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives and, in some cases, a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

- Des Moines, IA / Louisville, KY / Green Bay, WI: $89,300 – $120,650
- St. Louis, MO / Pittsburgh, PA / Charlotte, NC: $94,000 – $127,000
- Denver, CO / Houston, TX / Chicago, IL / Minneapolis, MN: $103,400 – $139,700
- Seattle, WA / Los Angeles, CA / New York City, NY: $112,800 – $152,400
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Employees do not accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work EnvironmentsThis role offers in‑office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, Charlotte, NC, and Raleigh, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
