Position Overview
The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State seeks a part‑time Marketing and Communications Specialist to support marketing and engagement efforts across social media, digital and print channels. The role is primarily onsite and involves creating and executing content that promotes museum programs, exhibitions, and partnerships.
Responsibilities- Lead ideation, organization, creation, and implementation of social and new media content, including posts, stories, and reels.
- Strategize engagement marketing to grow the Palmer’s audience and increase visitorship.
- Prepare and create multimedia content and marketing materials for print, electronic, and other collateral.
- Review and proofread content including social media, website, advertising, articles, and brochures.
- Attend and document programs and events via photo and/or video.
- Assist in planning overall marketing and communications strategy.
- Assist in researching and analyzing social media and marketing strategies in the museum sector.
- Assist in response and/or emergency communications to Palmer audiences.
- Provide general support and backup for the museum’s marketing team.
- Bachelor’s degree in social media, marketing, communications, or related field, or 2–3 years of equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in social media management, content creation, photography, videography, graphic design, and writing/editing.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and web design/upkeep.
- Familiarity with social media and e‑mail marketing tools such as Hootsuite and Mailchimp.
- Strong project and time‑management skills.
- Passion for the arts, education, and museums.
Part‑time, 24 hours per week. Salary range: $20–25 per hour.
