The McCoy College of Business Marketing and Communications team is seeking a creative, detail-oriented graduate student designer to support the college's visual communications and design projects. The Graduate Student Designer is a hybrid role based in San Marcos, TX. This position will assist with the design and production of digital and print marketing materials that promote the college's programs, events, faculty, students, alumni, and initiatives.
This role is responsible for creating digital and print materials such as flyers, social media graphics, presentations, web assets, and promotional materials that align with the college’s brand standards.
The graduate student designer will collaborate with the marketing and communications team and provide design support to departments and centers across the college. This position offers an opportunity to build a professional portfolio in higher education marketing and communications while working on a variety of creative projects.
Pay$15/hour
Primary Responsibilities- Design graphics for social media platforms that align with the McCoy College brand and marketing objectives.
- Create print materials including flyers, posters, brochures, postcards, banners, event signage, and promotional pieces.
- Assist with the development of marketing collateral for academic departments, centers, and college-wide initiatives.
- Adapt existing branded templates for a variety of communications needs while maintaining visual consistency.
- Prepare print-ready files and digital assets according to project specifications.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute creative ideas for marketing campaigns and college communications.
- Organize and maintain design files and digital assets.
- Current graduate student enrolled at Texas State University (fall)
- Strong graphic design skills with proficiency in tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or comparable design software.
- Experience creating visual assets for digital and print media, including social media graphics, presentations, posters, and web content.
- Knowledge of branding, typography, color theory, and layout principles, with the ability to adhere to institutional brand guidelines.
- Basic understanding of user-centered and accessible design practices for print and digital formats.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to interpret feedback.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced academic environment.
- Enrollment in a graduate program, preferably in design, communication, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience in design work.
- Previous experience in a university, nonprofit, or professional design setting is beneficial but not required.
The graduate student designer will gain experience collaborating with clients, managing creative projects, producing professional marketing materials, and applying branding standards across a wide range of communications.
Work Schedule- Approximately 20 hours per week.
- Flexible schedule arranged around academic commitments during regular business hours.
- Some in-person work is expected, with remote work opportunities based on project needs.
The graduate student designer will primarily focus on design execution rather than leading large-scale campaigns. Typical assignments include creating social media graphics, updating existing marketing materials, designing event materials, and supporting ongoing communications projects. Work will be assigned and prioritized by the Marketing and Communications team to ensure a manageable workload that complements the student's academic responsibilities.
Guaranteed employment until December 31, 2026, with potential to stay on the following semester.
