Job Description and Position Requirements
The Palmer Museum of Art in the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State is seeking a detail‑ and deadline‑oriented Marketing and Communications Specialist with excellent interpersonal, creative‑thinking, and communications skills to join our imaginative team. This part‑time role primarily works onsite to conceive and execute engagement efforts linked to the social media, digital, and print marketing strategies of the Palmer Museum.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding and proven knowledge of social media management and content creation; photography, videography, and graphic design; writing, editing, and proofreading; as well as project and time management skills. They will create, conceptualize, edit, implement, and enhance various forms of content and communications, including social media posts and reels; marketing collateral; digital and print signage; advertising; website;
and other internal and external communications and marketing across the Palmer's staff and diverse audiences. Preferably, the specialist will also have sufficient awareness of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite tools, experience with web design and upkeep, and familiarity with social media and e‑mail marketing tools such as Hootsuite and Mailchimp. We hope they will have a passion for the arts, education, and museums.

Key Responsibilities- Lead ideation, organization, creation, and implementation of social and new/emerging media content and communications that relate to programs, exhibitions, and partnerships at the Palmer, including scheduled and real‑time updates, posts, stories, and reels, following best practices and industry trends
- Strategize engagement marketing to grow the Palmer's audience and increase visitorship, both virtually and in person
- Prepare and create the execution of multimedia content, marketing materials, and mass media communications for print, electronic, and other collateral
- Review and proofread content, including social media, website, advertising, articles, brochures, and other communications
- Attend and document (via photo and/or video) programs and events
- Assist in the planning of overall marketing and/or communications strategy
- Assist in the research and analysis of social media and marketing strategies used in academic, museum, and cultural arts sectors
- Assist in response and/or emergency communications to Palmer audiences
- Provide general support and backup for the museum's marketing and communications team
Bachelor's degree in social media, marketing, communications, or related field OR 2-3 years of equivalent experience required.
Salary & BenefitsThis is a part‑time position at 24 hours per week. The salary range for this position is $20-25 per hour.
