Who We Are

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems. This position is with the Communications Office of DTMB.

This position is a member of the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget Communications team and provides communications support for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). The role coordinates and implements IT‑specific communications, focusing on writing and editing nontechnical content on technical subjects. The position works with IT subject‑matter experts, leaders, and project managers within OCTO to research and write for various mediums, including email, intranet sites, presentations, educational resources, video/tutorial scripts, etc.

The office location is Lansing, MI. The State of Michigan is not able to offer employment to out‑of‑state applicants that do not plan to relocate. The Department of Technology Management and Budget currently offers a hybrid work option that requires two days working on‑site at the official work location and three days of remote work per week.

Required Education

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, public relations, or a related field.

Required Experience

• Communications Representative 9:
  No specific type or amount required.
• Communications Representative 10:
  One year of professional experience preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative 9.
• Communications Representative P11:
  Two years of professional experience preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative, including one year equivalent to a Communications Representative 10.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major with two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement. Or completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 16 semester (24 term) credits in any combination of coursework in the following areas:
English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, marketing, or public relations, AND two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement. Or educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.
