Sports ETA is the trade association for the sports events and tourism industry, connecting event owners, rights holders, destinations, and industry partners to drive the growth and development of sports tourism. Through education, networking, research, and advocacy, Sports ETA supports professionals and organizations that create impactful sporting events and experiences across the United States.

Position Summary

Sports ETA is seeking a Membership Operations Intern to support membership operations, community engagement, and association administration. This internship offers hands‑on experience in association management, member engagement, event administration, database management, and process improvement while providing valuable exposure to the day‑to‑day operations of a national membership organization.

The Membership Operations Intern reports to the Membership & Engagement Team under the direction of the Senior Director of Membership & Engagement and collaborates with staff across multiple departments to support Sports ETA’s membership initiatives, member communities, events, and organizational projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate logistics for Sports ETA’s 17 member communities, including meeting scheduling, invitations, and follow‑up communications.
  • Schedule meetings and assist with managing Membership & Engagement team calendars.
  • Coordinate community group speakers and prepare meeting materials.
  • Manage Zoom meetings, attendance reports, recordings, and post‑meeting communications.
  • Update website content, member resources, and digital materials to ensure information remains current and accessible.
  • Organize community meeting recordings and maintain digital resource libraries.
  • Maintain and update member records within Sports ETA’s customer relationship management (CRM) system, including account updates, data cleanup, and account consolidation.
  • Support membership and event registration processes, including attendee communications and confirmations.
  • Assist with membership reporting, analytics, and departmental research projects.
  • Create, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), templates, and departmental checklists.
  • Support process improvement initiatives that enhance departmental efficiency and the member experience.
  • Collaborate with other Sports ETA departments on cross‑functional projects and organizational initiatives.

Interns may have opportunities to collaborate across departments and support additional Sports ETA initiatives as organizational priorities evolve. Other duties may be assigned to provide a well‑rounded learning experience.

Internship Details
  • Expected commitment of 5–10 hours per week.
  • Internship term follows the academic semester calendar.
    • Fall Term:
      September-December with flexibility on exact dates
    • Spring Term:
      January-April with flexibility on exact dates
    • Summer Term:
      May-August with flexibility on exact dates
  • Primarily remote, with occasional in‑person meetings or events as determined by the supervisor.
  • Opportunities for travel may include travel to Sports ETA events, including the 2027 Sports ETA Symposium in Salt Lake City, April 12–15, 2027. Approved travel expenses will be covered by Sports ETA.
  • Interns are responsible for providing their own computer, internet access, and workspace.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who reside in the Indianapolis metropolitan area for the spring internship to support in‑person event opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in sport management, tourism, hospitality, nonprofit management, communications, marketing, public relations, business, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
  • Comfortable participating in virtual meetings with camera enabled.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Word Press.
  • Experience with Trello or other project management platforms.
  • Previous involvement with membership organizations, customer service, events, student organizations, or nonprofit initiatives.
