Help tell the story of the future of health education in Alaska. The University of Alaska Anchorage College of Health is seeking a strategic and collaborative Communications Director to lead the college's communications, marketing, branding, and public relations efforts. Working closely with college leadership, you'll shape how the college shares its impact through compelling storytelling, strategic communications, and community engagement.
The Communications Director serves as the communications leader for the UAA College of Health, developing and implementing strategic communications and marketing initiatives that support the college's mission, vision, and strategic priorities. Working as a member of the college's leadership team, this position collaborates with academic and administrative leaders to promote the college's academic programs, research, student success, and community impact through a variety of communication channels.
The position supervises Communications Coordinator staff, manages communications projects and budgets, advises leadership on media and public relations, and develops engaging content that strengthens the College of Health's reputation across Alaska and beyond.
You'll thrive in this role if you're a strategic thinker who enjoys translating complex ideas into compelling stories and building strong relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. Success requires exceptional writing and editing skills, strong project management abilities, and the confidence to advise leaders on communications strategies and public relations. You'll be comfortable balancing multiple priorities, supervising creative professionals, and using data to evaluate the effectiveness of communications campaigns.
Experience developing content across digital and traditional platforms, collaborating across diverse teams, and maintaining a consistent organizational voice will help you succeed in this fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field and five years of progressively responsible communications experience, knowledge of health related academic programs, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.
New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
