The UWM Planetarium is searching the cosmos for a Communications Coordinator ready to apply their skills in creative marketing and science communication. This position has flexibility to work around 15 hours a week with a mix of in person and remote work. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills and be creative and attentive to details. The Communications Coordinator position is the perfect role for someone who wants to blend their passion for science and creative communication.

Essential

Functions of the Job
  • Write and edit text for a variety of purposes
  • Create designs using Canva for newsletters and social media
  • Take photos and video footage at public events
  • Create monthly newsletters
  • Post on social media
  • Hang fliers around campus
  • Send outreach emails
  • Attend weekly meetings
  • Independently keep track of deadlines, tasks, and projects
  • Perform other tasks as assigned such as responding to customer service inquiries and retrieving mail
Qualifications
  • Must be graduating December 2027 or later
  • Demonstrated writing skills in a variety of formats (e.g., email, social media, website)
  • Experience using Canva or similar software
  • Experience using Microsoft software including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Some weekday and occasional Friday night/weekend availability
  • Interest in astronomy or science
  • Excellent independent time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work with a team, receive constructive feedback, and make timely revisions
Wage

The starting hourly wage is $14 per hour, with potential for a raise after 6 months.
