Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of the Office of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing & Digital Communication Manager will play a pivotal leadership role in developing a strategic approach to communication and marketing for the university's constituency groups and target audiences. Using a comprehensive, dynamic approach, the successful candidate will enhance awareness and shape positive perceptions of UM-Flint to external and internal audiences to increase new student enrollment and current student retention rates.
The content produced will be stewarded in collaboration with the director and assistant director. It will include compelling branded content for a variety of communications channels, including digital, print, video, and social media.
- Direct oversight of the university news outlet, including posting of all stories published to the site and associated dispersal of weekly recap emails to media outlets.
- Regularly writes news stories for the university news outlet.
- Serves as MAC liaison to colleges and schools communication specialists, providing editorial and copyediting direction. Provides onboarding and direction to newly hired communication specialists regarding MAC operations.
- Serves as MAC liaison to the CRM Technical Advisory Group.
- Serves as primary coordinator for AODC marketing and communications, including storytelling, web updates, and coordination of paid media between the planning group and the assistant director of MAC.
- Co-content creator for university digital marketing campaigns.
- Builds and sends executive emails to the UM-Flint community via Mailchimp. Maintains contact lists for these email campaigns.
- Creates featured content for university annual reports and other executive publications.
- Collaborates with the university photographer on visual elements for news.
- Works collaboratively with the MAC website content administrator to update key web properties with content aligned with university events and goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, business or a related field.
- Four or more years of relevant professional experience, preferably in higher education.
- Demonstrated outstanding organizational, communication, writing, and editing skills, including AP style.
- Proven understanding of best practices for content, including knowledge of accessibility requirements for web content, SEO principles, and how content is deployed across various platforms and measured through analytics.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly using Google Suite, Microsoft Office software, and other software essential to performing the duties of this position.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud or other image editing software.
- Experience with Word Press or similar Content Management Systems.
