Are you passionate about writing, storytelling, social media, digital content, or multimedia communications?

As a Corporate Communications Intern at Union Pacific, you'll help shape how employees, customers, communities, and stakeholders connect with a company that has been Building America for more than 160 years. You'll gain hands‑on experience creating content, supporting communication campaigns, contributing to social media and digital storytelling efforts, and collaborating with professionals across the organization.

This is more than a traditional internship. You'll work on meaningful projects that develop your communication, research, project management, and business skills while building relationships with leaders and professionals across the company.

This position is intended for students who are actively pursuing a degree while attending a college or university within commuting distance of Omaha, Nebraska and are interested in building real‑world communications experience within Union Pacific's Corporate Relations team. During the academic year, this position offers a flexible schedule averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Interns are expected to work primarily onsite at Union Pacific Center in Omaha, Nebraska, with some flexibility for remote work as approved by their manager.

Interns are also expected to work full‑time in Omaha, Nebraska, during the summer portion of the internship.

This role provides hands‑on experience while allowing you to build your skills alongside experienced communications professionals.

The estimated wage for this position is between$21-$25 per hour
. Final rate of pay will be based on several factors including year of study, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Accountabilities

Content Creation and Storytelling

  • Craft compelling narratives for internal and external audiences through content creation, writing, and social media support
  • Assist with editing, publishing, and maintaining content across corporate and social media channels, content management systems, and internal communication platforms
  • Support internal and external communication campaigns through content development and publication activities

Measurement and Project Management

  • Participate in measurement and reporting activities that evaluate communication effectiveness, including creating monitoring reports, analyzing communication metrics, and collecting feedback
  • Assist with project management activities for communication initiatives, including administrative tasks and special projects

Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Learn and perform core Corporate Communications business group tasks, including writing news releases and compiling media distribution lists
  • Develop and execute project action plans, conduct targeted research assignments, and assist with monthly metrics reporting
  • Build professional relationships with colleagues across departments and collaborate with internal stakeholders on communication initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Required
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, or a closely related field
  • Completed, or will have completed by the internship start date, coursework equivalent to at least two years toward an undergraduate degree
  • Currently attending a college or university within commuting distance of Omaha, Nebraska
  • Strong writing skills with proficiency in AP Style
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and related analytics tools
  • Demonstrated ability to remain organized, creative, and professional in a fast‑paced environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
- Preferred
  • Prior internship experience in corporate communications demonstrating business writing and editing skills
  • Experience as a writer or editor for a university newspaper or through academic, nonprofit, student organization, or professional experiences
