Washington Conservation Action (WCA) seeks an experienced writer and editor to support our communications work. The core responsibility of the Content Senior Manager is to write and manage content for WCA’s communication channels. This position drives our media strategy, reviews content, provides copy edits, and collaborates with staff to develop stories.

This position works in close collaboration with WCA staff and coalition partners toadvance our work for environmental progress, justice, and a strong democracy. The Content Senior Manager reports to the Communications Director.

Washington Conservation Action
is based in downtown Seattle. Our team ofnearly 50works in a flexible hybrid or remote model; staff living in the greater Puget Sound areajoin together in the office two days a week for collaboration, creativity, and celebration. Responsibilities

The Content Senior Manageris responsible for written content across different media and platforms. They focus on strategizing, ideating, drafting, and editing content for our teams.

Writing and Editing:
  • Write and edit high-quality content for various print and digital communication channels and media employed by WCA, applying an environmental justice lens to storytelling.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director on media relations and strategy, including writing press releases, media pitches, op-eds, letters to the editor, and press briefings.
  • Author stories for Convene, our biannual magazine, conducting interviews, drafting, and editing features.
  • Work with Communications staff tomaintaina common voice across media and maintain the organizational style guide.
  • Support the development team with content consultation and advise on new ways to integrate storytelling into our fundraising.
  • Provide real-time and urgent copy-editingexpertiseon an ongoing basis for external communications and various projects delegated by the Communications Director.
  • Maintain a library of content for use by WCA teams.
Strategy and Media Relations
  • Develop proactive media outreach strategies, securing feature stories and coverage of priority issues.
  • Assistin building and managing strong relationships with media contacts.
  • Advise on traditional media strategy and story placement.
  • Develop tactics and strategies to influence legislators and public opinion on legislative priorities.
Collaboration and Coaching
  • Collaborate with our partners to write op-eds that are co-authored with WCA staff.
  • Provide coaching on writing best practices in alignment with our style guide, providing materials to help staff generate writing that is compelling and consistent with WCA’s goals.
  • Work with staff to develop and refine content for written communications as assigned.
  • Drive strong interview and storytelling, centered on anti-racism and environmental justice, throughout different levelsof the organization’s communications channels.
Communications Planning and Project Management
  • Maintain an editorial calendar for blogs, op eds, and impact stories.
