PurposePerkin Elmer is seeking a Strategic Segment Manager to own the full go-to-market strategy for Petrochemicals, Mining & Metals. This is a market-facing, intelligence-led role that sits at the intersection of product strategy and commercial execution.
The Strategic Segment Manager is the organisation's foremost expert on their assigned market: the customer workflows, competitive dynamics, regulatory environment, and purchasing patterns that determine how Perkin Elmer wins or loses in that segment. They translate this expertise into Market Requirements Documents that shape product roadmaps, go-to-market playbooks that guide commercial execution, and value propositions that give the sales organization a compelling story to tell.
This is a cross-product-line role. The Strategic Segment Manager sees the segment horizontally — understanding how customers in their market use the full range of Perkin Elmer's analytical capabilities, and identifying where the portfolio wins, where it loses, and where it needs to evolve.
Responsibilities:Market Intelligence & VOC
Maintain deep, current knowledge of the assigned segment: customer workflows, buying behaviour, regulatory and compliance requirements, competitive landscape, and technology adoption trends
Execute a structured VOC program, covering current users, competitive users, and prospective customers across the segment's key geographies and sub-verticals
Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, industry associations, regulatory bodies, and academic partners in the segment — establishing Perkin Elmer as a credible, trusted partner in the relevant scientific community
Conduct systematic competitive intelligence: tracking competitor product launches, pricing, application claims, and go-to-market moves — translating intelligence into actionable competitive response recommendations
Own the segment's Market Requirements Document — the structured, evidence-based articulation of customer needs, competitive gaps, and product investment priorities for the assigned segment across all relevant Perkin Elmer product lines
Update and maintain the MRD on a structured annual cadence, with interim updates when significant market events (competitive launches, regulatory changes, customer feedback patterns) require immediate revision
Present MRD findings and recommendations to the VP Product Line teams, VP Marketing, and Sr. Director — defending investment priorities with customer evidence and commercial data, not assumption
Ensure MRD inputs are formally adopted into at least one VP Product Line roadmap planning cycle per year, tracking implementation of MRD-driven product decisions
Develop the segment go-to-market strategy: target customer profiles, channel priorities, campaign themes, value proposition hierarchy, and commercial messaging that positions Perkin Elmer's portfolio competitively in the assigned segment
