Its research helps donors make informed giving decisions, with the organisation directing more than $400 million to highly cost-effective programmes in 2025.
As Give Well’s research, grantmaking and organisational reach continue to expand, the organisation is building its communications capacity to support its next stage of growth.
Give Well is seeking a Senior Communications Officer, Strategic Communications to lead the development of messaging and narratives that explain its work to different audiences and in different contexts.

The successful candidate will take end‑to‑end responsibility for this emerging communications function, including setting strategy, developing systems, hiring and developing team members, and personally‑leading high‑priority communications work.
The position reports to the Vice President of Communications, Steven Profaizer
, and will initially manage a small, growing team.
Give Well may consider appointing an exceptional candidate at Communications Director level, with greater responsibilities and compensation.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Communications Officer will:
- Lead Give Well’s brand positioning and ensure its guidelines are applied consistently across teams, channels and partnerships.
- Develop messaging and narratives that make Give Well’s work accessible while maintaining accuracy, precision and transparency about uncertainty.
- Translate research, grantmaking and ideas into audience‑specific messages and communications frameworks.
- Partner with the Philanthropy team on donor communications strategy and lead tailored donor‑facing communications.
- Lead complex, cross‑functional communications initiatives, including major partnership campaigns.
- Advise senior leaders and teams on audiences, messaging, framing, opportunities and communications risks.
- Assess emerging issues affecting Give Well and develop appropriate organisational positions and messaging.
- Lead the strategic direction and institutional messaging for Give Well’s website.
- Own the organisation’s internal communications strategy and major internal communications.
- Manage and develop one or two team members initially.
- Help shape the future structure, systems and capabilities of Give Well’s strategic communications function.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced communications leader who can make complex ideas understandable, build trust and motivate audiences to take action.
Candidates should have:
- 10+ years of experience developing institutional narratives and messaging, advising senior leaders, communicating complex or technical material, and leading cross‑functional initiatives.
- Significant experience owning communications work from strategy through execution.
- Exceptional communications judgment, including the ability to assess audience, context, timing, risk and substance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A demonstrated record of building or substantially rebuilding teams or functions.
- Experience hiring, developing and managing people.
- Recent examples of hands‑on communications work personally produced or substantially shaped.
- Experience communicating complex subjects accurately, directly and engagingly.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to engage deeply with research and data.
- Experience advising executives or senior decision‑makers.
