Position Summary:

This is a limited term position with American Bird Conservancy (ABC). American Bird Conservancy is a fast-growing, results-focused nonprofit seeking employees with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to make a difference for birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. Inspired by the wonder of birds, ABC achieves lasting results for the bird species most in need while also benefiting human communities, biodiversity, and the planet’s fragile climate.

The Texas Coastal Program Coordinator position is focused on advancing bird conservation efforts along the Texas Gulf Coast, with a special emphasis on reducing trash accumulation and mitigating threats to coastal birds and habitats. Coastal bird conservation and impacts from trash and plastic (and other threats) will be the primary focus. The position will be housed under the Gulf Coast team led by the Gulf Coastal Program Director.

The Program Coordinator will oversee the daily planning, coordination, and promotion of SPLASh events including clean-up events, educational programming, and community outreach sometimes in collaboration with community stakeholders and partners. This role includes supporting volunteer recruitment, managing outreach communications, and maintaining volunteer databases as well as implementing educational programming for the public, school groups, and partners.

This position will work from a home office. Travel will be necessary throughout the upper Texas coast using a reliable personal vehicle and a Gulf Coastal Program four-wheel-drive truck. Travel includes to clean up, outreach, and education events, partner meetings and initiatives, and occasional trips to ABC headquarters and/or locations selected for ABC staff retreats.

  • Represent SPLASh at outreach and educational events, presentations, and community meetings to raise awareness of the program’s mission, promote volunteer engagement, and share bird conservation and trash mitigation strategies.
  • Support or coordinate event logistics when needed.
  • Manage volunteer engagement, including training and supporting volunteers in data collection protocols, providing outreach and public education guidance, coordinating volunteers for public and outreach events, and coordinating volunteer appreciation efforts.
