About AAPD
The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) works to increase the political and economic power of people with disabilities. As a national disability-led and cross-disability rights organization, AAPD advocates for full civil rights for over 60 million Americans with disabilities. We promote equal opportunity, economic power, independent living, and political participation through our programs and advocacy. We are looking to hire staff who embody our mission and are invested in building the disability rights movement.
AAPD is an equal opportunity employer. Our office collaborates across initiatives to actively uplift and center the diversity of the disability community in our work. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, status as a protected veteran, or status as a qualified individual with a disability.
Applicants with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. AAPD has an office headquartered in Washington, DC, but also has flexible workplace and remote work policies. AAPD follows strong COVID-19 Prevention Policies in our DC office and whenever staff are in-person.
About The Alumni Network:
The Alumni Network is an effort to sustain relationships with AAPD program alumni and provide programmatic opportunities to early and mid-level career professionals with disabilities. The Alumni Network allows AAPD Alumni to strengthen bonds with their peers, connect with alumni from different programs, and access professional development and support. In April 2026, AAPD is excited to host our first-ever in-person Alumni Network Regional Meet Up in Washington, DC.
Two enthusiastic alumni will help lead the planning efforts with the AAPD Programs Team from February through April. This is a temporary, independent contractor, part-time role. Only AAPD alumni are eligible to apply. Applicants living within the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area will be prioritized.
The Alumni Network is made up of participants from the following AAPD Programs:
- Fannie Lou Hamer Leadership Program
