Uncommon Good is a nonprofit organization with a mission to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty through programs in education, urban farming, and health care access. Our education program, Connect to College, is a college access program that provides disadvantaged students in 4th – 12th grades with mentors, tutors, academic guidance, and enrichment opportunities. Our urban farm program, CAUSA, provides healthy food for low-income families and community members.

Our MED program supports medical professionals who provide care in disadvantaged communities. Uncommon Good is housed in the first-of-its-kind-in-the-world Whole Earth Building that was built by hand with the assistance of Uncommon Good students, their families, and hundreds of community volunteers.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Institutional Giving Manager works full-time to raise $1.7 million in foundation, corporate, and government grants and sponsor ships annually. This is an in-person position, but some work-from-home days will be accommodated.

Strategy and Collaboration
  • Develop an annual strategic institutional giving plan that includes annual revenue growth. Collaborate with the executive team to finalize and implement.
Institutional Giving Pipeline
  • Develop a deep understanding of Uncommon Good programming, service participants, and funding needs.
  • Research and record demographic, health, educational, economic, and sociological data to support grant proposals.
  • Research and identify new private foundation, corporate, and government grant/sponsorship opportunities; prepare and present funder analyses to executive team.
  • Create and oversee grant calendar; manage and meet deadlines.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to set and meet grant objectives and to ensure impact metrics will be available for reporting purposes.
  • Write grant LOIs and applications; maintain grant database and grant files.
  • Develop acknowledgement and impact materials; track payments; write grant reports.
Stewardship
  • Steward an active portfolio of institutional funders; complete required communication and acknowledgement tasks; carefully plan and implement additional opportunities to communicate with funders and steward those relationships.
  • Assist with the creation and staffing of fundraising events.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Give presentations to funders, community groups, and represent Uncommon Good at public events.
  • Cultivate press and public relations opportunities.
  • Collaborate with coworkers on the design and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts.
Required Skills
  • Knowledge of best practices in nonprofit philanthropy.
  • Excellent business English writing and editing skills.
  • Superior creative problem solving and systems thinking to effectively match funding needs to opportunities.
  • Experience writing successful government, corporate, and private foundation grant applications (in the range of $25,000 - $500,000).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/G Suite.
  • Proficiency with donor databases, preferably Sales Force.
  • Ability to analyze financial reporting documents and to create grant budgets.
  • Excellent public speaking, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and be highly detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people including donors, funders, staff, volunteers, clients, and the public.

Requirements
  • A four-year college degree (B.A. or B.S.)
  • A minimum of five years of experience with nonprofit fundraising and development.
  • Success winning grants between $50,000 and $500,000.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as work is sometimes required on evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to learn additional database management skills (example: Sales Force) to produce reports and to use advanced functions.
Salary and benefits

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 depending on experience. Employer-paid health, dental, vision insurance. Free organic fruits and vegetables (from Uncommon Good farms). A 403(b) Individual Custodial Retirement Account. Paid vacation and sick days.
