Repair the World mobilizes Jews and their communities to take action to pursue a just world. The organization believes that service in support of social change is vital to a flourishing Jewish community and an inspired Jewish life. By 2030, Repair will catalyze one million acts of service towards repairing the world.
Repair is building a Jewish service movement of flourishing Jewish communities that serve in pursuit of a just world. Repair mobilizes young adults to serve in their communities, catalyzes service through deep partnerships within Jewish communal organizations, and inspires people to take action through time-bound thematic national service campaigns. The organization’s mission provides volunteers with an increased connection to meaningful service and learning as a Jewish value, builds capacity for nonprofit partners to meet their missions, and deepens connections across lines of difference.
Historyand Momentum
Founded in 2009, Repair the World now engages over 140,000 Jewish and non-Jewish young adults (ages 18–39) across 35+ states each year. Repair views service as both a powerful entry point to and expression of Jewish life and as a way to strengthen relationships across lines of difference.
Since October 7th, Repair has witnessed a surge of Jews seeking ways to act, connect, and live out their Judaism with meaning and pride. In the year after October 7th, Repair engaged twice as many participants as the year before, and engagement continues to rise. At this moment of profound need, Repair is creating inclusive, meaningful Jewish spaces where people can show up, learn, and connect with the broader Jewish community.
Contextfor Recruitment & Position Summary
With an ethos of unity and hope that transcends politics and is deeply resonant at this moment, Repair the World’s reach has more than doubled since the attacks of October 7, driven by surging interest from young Jews (ages 18- 39) and partnerships with non-Jews that, unlike other alliances, have grown deeper in the face of rising antisemitism. Repair’s plan for growth capitalizes on this momentum, positioning the organization to achieve significant scale in engaging over one million Jewish and non-Jewish participants in meaningful Jewish service and learning over the next five years, while doubling down on building durable bridges with non-Jews.
Driven by an ambitious strategic plan and a series of recent, transformational gifts supporting Repair’s expansion, the organization is further investing in sustainable growth by expanding mid-level and major individual gifts through the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of high-capacity prospects. This effort will be characterized by personalized outreach and increased in-person engagement, thereby deepening donor relationships with storytelling, meaningful recognition, and integrated campaigns and events that highlight Repair’s impact.
The newly created position of National Director, Major Gifts (National Director) will be central to building out a sophisticated individual major gifts program. Repair is currently seeking strategic, relationship-driven, and goal-oriented candidates for the opportunity.
This new role will be responsible for building, launching, and growing Repair’s new major gifts program and corresponding strategies, cultivating and stewarding a portfolio of high-capacity individual donors, and securing major gifts of $10,000–$100,000+ to sustain and scale organizational impact. A key aspect of this role will be partnering with and activating lay leaders, including major gift program chairs and vice chairs, to deepen donor relationships, broaden networks, and inspire a culture of philanthropy across the movement.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the National Director will also collaborate regularly with the CEO, Chief Strategy Officer, and other senior leaders, as well as engage with members of the Board of Directors to align strategies, share insights, and advance organizational priorities.
