The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist, Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotions and Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.
The Specialist, Health Promotions will coordinate and execute all aspects of the Delaware Youth Tobacco Prevention Contract including program implementation, recruitment, event planning, evaluation activities, and budget management. This is a grant-funded position.
Location:
Home-based in Delaware. The Lung Association does not currently have an office in the state of Delaware. This position is home-based and job responsibilities will take place in the state of Delaware.
- Coordinate and execute all aspects of the Delaware Youth Tobacco Prevention Contract in Delaware including program implementation, evaluation activities, and budget, as part of the grant contract.
- Work collaboratively with the Division of Public Health and various partners to implement the Youth Tobacco Prevention program.
- Recruit and manage students to participate in Kick Butts Generation (KBG) and Delawareans Against Nicotine and Tobacco Exposure (DANTE) through youth empowerment and engagement activities.
- Provide evidence-based youth tobacco education, intervention and cessation with Not on Tobacco and INDEPTH.
- Recruitment, planning and execution of youth education and empowerment events.
- Maintain community and coalition relationships by participating in meetings.
- Provide technical assistance for program leaders and disseminate tobacco education information to partners.
- Update and manage social media; newsletters, and email communications.
- Follow or spend funds IAW program budgets as outlined by manager, complete work plan activities, and related grant administration requirements as part of the Delaware Health & Social Services, Division of Public Health, contract.
- Ensure program quality, performance, and effectiveness including the oversight of all performance measures, data collection activities, evaluation, and reporting protocol.
- Represent the Association as a member of community, civic, and/or health coalitions and organizations related to the Association’s mission.
- Build, maintain, and cultivate relationships with funders and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across service territory, including ALA signature programs where applicable.
- Select and participate in local, state, and national seminars and courses designed to increase skills and knowledge related to job requirements.
- Serve on ALA’s regional and national work groups and committees as requested.
- Participate in and support all area events and provide support for annual report, awards, grants and other activities as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in public health, education, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum two years of experience working in tobacco control in a community setting and/or developing and implementing community awareness, education, and programs specifically related to areas of public health.
- Prior experience in public health, community relations, public policy, and/or advocacy.
- Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs.
- Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.
- Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
- Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area 60% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required.
