About Depave:
Depave’s mission is to empower disenfranchised communities to overcome social and environmental injustices and adapt to climate change through urban re‑greening. Our organization is at the heart of a national and international movement to remove pavement and re‑green landscapes for climate resilience, stormwater infiltration, environmental justice, and access to nature. Our projects and events build community, decrease social isolation, and empower people to change the world, effectively turning parking lots into paradise.
Depave has grown since our founding in 2008 to actively manage full landscape transformations at schoolyards, right of ways, churches, and community hubs including design, contracting, and permitting. We have a small staff of 4+ people, an active and supportive board of directors, and a beautiful network of passionate supporters, volunteers, funders, partners, and collaborators.
About the position:
Depave’s Outreach Manager brings people together to celebrate the idea that pavement isn’t permanent, and together we have the power to re‑green and transform our own neighborhoods.
The Outreach Manager is a storyteller, movement builder, and community ambassador who implements the communications and engagement aspects of Depave’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. They team up with Depave staff, board, partners, and volunteers to organize events across Portland communities impacted by urban heating and environmental injustice; tell inspiring, multimedia stories that share our projects; and empower the public with resources to grow the depave movement.
The Outreach Manager plays a pivotal role engaging and facilitating volunteers in Depave’s work so that our relatively small organization continues to have an outsized impact.
We are looking for a highly organized team player and excellent communicator who enjoys crafting inspiring stories, is comfortable working outdoors, and who genuinely loves meeting and connecting with the public. Depave is excited to be undergoing a 6 month pro bono marketing update in 2026, which will give the Outreach Manager the opportunity to help shape the assets and narratives they use.
Depave offers reasonable flexibility with hours and work from home, with the expectation of weekly in‑office meeting times. Depave is a place‑based organization and this position is rooted in the neighborhoods of Portland, Oregon.
