ABOUT NEIGHBOR SHARE
1 in 3 Americans can’t afford a $400 emergency.
Neighbor Share’s mission is to build access to just-in-time financial assistance so a small but pivotal expense, like a car repair or unexpected bill, doesn’t lead to a crisis like job loss or homelessness. We partner with local nonprofits to identify urgent needs that would otherwise go unmet and our growing network of neighbors, corporate partners, and private funders meet these needs in real-time via our tech-enabled platform.
Our model reimagines traditional philanthropy. It’s fast, flexible, community-powered giving that prioritizes dignity, trust, and direct outcomes. It also draws on research that affirms the efficacy and efficiency of direct cash assistance.
What began with a handful of partners has grown into a national network of 58 organizations across 19 states. To date, we’ve fulfilled $1.5 million+ in urgent needs for more than 15,000 neighbors.
To date, we have largely been powered by a dedicated team of volunteers who are experts in their fields—business strategists, engineers, product designers, marketers. We are also led by a Board of industry leaders from world‑class companies like Goldman Sachs, Shutterfly, and Apollo.
Neighbor Share is rooted in trust, speed, and the belief that small acts of generosity, delivered at the right moment, can have a transformative impact. We’re building a new kind of safety net that’s powered by community and connection.
ROLE OVERVIEWAs we enter our next chapter of growth, we’re deepening our place-based strategy. After years of building partnerships across the country, we’re now piloting a hyper-local model in Greater Boston, applying what we’ve learned nationally to activate a powerful, community-driven ecosystem of generosity.
We’re seeking a Philanthropy Lead to help build and grow this next phase.
This is a rare opportunity to stand on the front edge of a national movement advancing household financial resilience, while playing a visible leadership role in one of the country’s most vibrant philanthropic markets.
The Philanthropy Lead will work closely with the Executive Director to:
- Advance national fundraising efforts
- Lead and grow our Boston-based philanthropic strategy
- Cultivate a network of champions across individual, corporate, and institutional giving
Roughly 50-60% of the role will focus on Boston (likely more in the early months), building authentic, in-person relationships across the region’s major donors, corporate partners, and philanthropic leaders.
We have a preference for candidates with a strong major gifts background, but will also consider those with significant experience in corporate giving, partnerships, or business development. What matters most is your ability to build trust, open doors, and translate Neighbor Share’s work into compelling investment opportunities.
This is a full-time, remote role in that we don’t have a bricks and mortar office, but Boston-based relationship development should be conducted in person whenever possible.
You’ll be joining a small, entrepreneurial, get-it-done team that values transparency, trust, dignity, and community. We don’t “drop in” to markets. We listen first. We build alongside existing partners. And we work to strengthen — not disrupt — local social care ecosystems.
