Job Overview
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a Senior Officer for the USA Philanthropy department’s Major Giving East team. The role is focused on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding high-net‑worth donors in the Eastern United States, managing a portfolio of up to 100 individuals and securing five‑ and six‑figure gifts to support IRC’s humanitarian mission worldwide.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a portfolio of up to 100 high‑net‑worth individuals, guiding each relationship through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Lead proactive prospect discovery through relationship and network mapping, leveraging research to identify and qualify new donor relationships.
- Develop and implement creative, long‑term engagement strategies that deepen donor commitment and grow giving over time, in partnership with the Director of Major Giving.
- Travel as needed to meet donors, prospects, and stakeholders across assigned geographies for face‑to‑face engagement.
- Secure five‑ and six‑figure gifts through front‑line fundraising activities, engaging senior leaders and program staff as strategic partners when appropriate.
- Develop and manage briefing and debriefing materials, meeting strategies, and solicitation plans for face‑to‑face interactions with senior staff and board leadership.
- Collaborate with IRC internally to align donor interests with organizational priorities, building multifaceted engagement aligned with mission urgency.
- Partner with Account Managers to track progress, measure results, and move donors and prospects effectively through the giving lifecycle.
- Adapt quickly to shifting organizational priorities, pivoting donor strategies in real time to respond to fast‑paced developments.
- Undertake special projects as requested.
- 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience, with a proven record in private or major gifts fundraising, or sales, including direct solicitation of donors or clients.
- Consistent track record of closing multiple five‑ and six‑figure gifts or contracts from a dynamic portfolio.
- Ability to develop blended, multi‑year funding opportunities.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, capable of articulating complex strategies to senior audiences.
- Creative and nuanced donor strategy development, often executed in partnership with program staff.
- Adaptability to change in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining donor‑centric focus.
- Diplomatic collaboration across teams, regardless of distance, to secure support for initiatives.
- Process‑oriented mindset, identifying and implementing systems to support effective donor relationships.
- Analytical ability to interpret financial data and navigate CRM systems and databases.
- Demonstrated dedication to fundraising for international development, humanitarian, human rights, gender and racial equality, social justice, and U.S. immigrant communities.
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, business, communications, or related field preferred.
- Experience of at least five years in major gifts fundraising, with proven success in securing multi‑figure gifts.
- Strong networking skills and ability to build authentic, long‑term donor relationships.
- Proficiency with donor‑relationship management systems and data analysis tools.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
This position offers part‑time remote work. Applicants are expected to travel occasionally to meet donors and prospects in the Eastern United States.
CompensationPay Range: $93,000 – $110,000 (U.S. based candidates). Final offers are determined by job location, experience, and skills.
