Job Overview
Community Volunteer Engagement Senior Specialist mobilizes regional teams of volunteers to deliver impactful mission across Red Cross lines of service. This role will grow local community volunteer capacity and design new volunteer opportunities to meet mission, community, and evolving volunteer needs. Position can be based in Farmington, Milford, Southbury or Providence. Hybrid: 3 days in office / other days work from home or in the field.
SpecificResponsibilities
- Engage volunteers for episodic/event-based opportunities
- Collaborate with volunteer leadership committees
- Coordinate Home Fire Campaign activities
- Oversee Restoring Family Links community outreach
- Coordinate veteran programs at regional Veteran Administration facilities
- Manage the Community Volunteer Workforce
- Grow the community volunteer capacity, engage external partners and the community to meet local needs for community based programming including preparedness programs, restoring family links, veteran services and other regionally approved services
- Liaise with community programming leads (EDs and CVLs) to understand and meet workforce needs
- Community Services Volunteer management: create visibility and engagement of internal volunteers, youth groups, and partners in chapter opportunities
- Opportunity Design:
Design and share new and non-traditional volunteer opportunity types to mobilize the community - Manage the VS workforce systems and processes to ensure recurrent and one-time community services are staffed fully
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the design of volunteer opportunities to best meet the needs of the community, organization and volunteer
- Continuous Improvement: support the organizational learning and adoption of new and non-traditional volunteer opportunities with line of business
- Data and reporting on Community Services volunteer impact
- Program and process improvement; volunteer and employee matrixed management
- Directly lead teams of volunteers locally and regionally
- Support peers across the region who may lead local community volunteer teams
- Education: Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, public administration, or related field.
- Experience: 5 years in workforce planning, strategy, or volunteer management; experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations preferred.
- Skills: Strong volunteer management and team development skills; ability to translate requests and ideas into actionable plans and processes; excellent communication and collaboration abilities; ability to work within matrix environments and manage ambiguity; proficiency in Microsoft Office and workforce analytics tools.
- Other Requirements: Ability to travel as needed and respond during major disasters. Familiarity with volunteer engagement models and workforce development best practices.
The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic).
Salary range for Connecticut: $64,900 – $68,390. American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors may include specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees in this role.
