Job Summary
The Director of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd ment of Rome Catholic Church is a part-time, 12-month salaried position reporting directly to the Pastor. This role leads a growing Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) program serving over 100 children from toddler through Level III. Rooted in a Montessori-based approach to faith formation, the program fosters children's encounter with God through Scripture, liturgy, and hands-on learning.
The Director collaborates with parents, staff, catechists, and volunteers to guide children in deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ while creating a welcoming and spiritually rich parish environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Facilitate approximately 10 CGS classes per week and oversee sacramental preparation for children ages 0-12
- Lead and support a team of 25+ catechists, assistants, and volunteers in faith formation efforts
- Recruit, onboard, orient, and provide ongoing formation and development for catechists and atrium assistants
- Prepare, organize, and maintain CGS materials, including atrium setup and ongoing environment care
- Manage program budget, tuition collection, and financial oversight
- Coordinate logistics and facility usage for off-campus program location (currently St. Monica in Creve Coeur)
- Oversee program communications across multiple platforms (website, bulletin, newsletters)
- Plan and implement family engagement events to build community within the CGS program
- Create a nurturing, prayerful environment where children can grow in faith
- Guide children in prayer, Scripture reflection, and liturgical celebrations
- Provide individualized support to meet the developmental and spiritual needs of each child
- Serve as a resource to support other parishes and schools interested in CGS program development
- Practicing Catholic with a deep personal commitment to the faith and relationship with God
- Level III Catechesis of the Good Shepherd formation preferred or willingness to obtain
- Strong understanding of the Montessori approach to education
- Prior experience serving as a catechist in a CGS atrium
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with parents, children, staff, and volunteers
- Patience, adaptability, and the ability to foster meaningful relationships within a faith community
