Supervising Advocacy Specialist – Advocacy & Representation
Disability Rights Wisconsin is Wisconsin’s Protection and Advocacy system, dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities and ensuring they are free from abuse and neglect.
About the PositionThe Supervising Advocacy Specialist leads a team of Advocacy Specialists who provide individual and systemic advocacy for children and adults with disabilities. The role includes overseeing case strategy, workload management, and maintaining a limited advocacy portfolio.
Full Time Equivalent: 40 Hours/week
Reports to: Managing Attorney
Rate: $64,520 – $80,404 annually
Location: Disability Rights Wisconsin offices in Milwaukee and Madison. Hybrid work policy; not eligible for fully remote work.

Key Responsibilities- Lead and support a team of Advocacy Specialists (40%):
Assess and assign cases, facilitate meetings, provide coaching and performance reviews, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. - Conduct individual and systemic advocacy (20%):
Provide direct client services, perform needs assessments, coordinate court proceedings with attorneys, and support self-advocacy strategies. - Administration (20%):
Monitor case documentation, prepare agendas and minutes, maintain client files with confidentiality, analyze data, and prepare program reports. - Community Engagement (20%):
Build and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal agencies; represent DRW in task forces, coalitions, and committees; develop training materials for stakeholders. - General (1%):
Adhere to policies, participate in staff meetings and committees, and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or four years of paid work providing advocacy to vulnerable populations, experience with case management or related case support, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and prior supervisory experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Direct contact with persons with disabilities or social justice movements; knowledge of Wisconsin disability services and resources; proficiency in case development and workload planning; language skills in Spanish, Hmong, or ASL; proficiency with Microsoft Edge, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook; and prior advocacy experience.
The position requires a stationary work setting with periods of standing or sitting for 27–40+ hours per week, occasional task movement (≤10 hours per week), repetitive hand motions, and minimal vehicle operation.
