This is an Ameri Corps position with Arizona Conservation Corps (AZCC), which is an Ameri Corps program of Conservation Legacy. The member selected for this position will serve as the Southern Arizona Community Outreach Coordinator with AZCC. AZCC is focused on connecting youth, young adults, and recent era military veterans with communities and conservation service projects on public lands. AZCC operates programs across Arizona that engage individuals and strengthen communities through service and conservation.
AZCC has program offices in Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Tucson and offers crew and individual placement (IP) opportunities. Our field crews serve 8-day hitches based out of our Tucson and Flagstaff offices, where members gain hands‑on experience with trail work, invasive species removal, fuels reduction, and more. Our IP program places individuals and small groups into specialized conservation projects throughout the state, where members serve directly with partner organizations and agencies.
The Southern Arizona Community Outreach Individual Placement member will play a key role in developing AZCC’s outreach initiatives by building relationships with individuals, communities, schools, and organizations across rural and Tribal communities around the state, with an emphasis on Southern Arizona.
Recruitment- Attend tabling and outreach events across southern AZ
- Create and distribute recruitment and marketing material at job fairs, schools, and community centers
- Develop and expand AZCC’s recruitment and outreach initiatives in rural and Indigenous communities in southern Arizona
- Give presentations at schools and community centers about opportunities at AZCC
- Support with crew member and IP interviews during the heavy recruitment months
- Work to build or expand existing relationships and partnerships to develop recruitment pathways
- Assist with Ameri Corps enrollment tasks as needed
- Assist with organizing volunteer, community engagement, and professional development events for AZCC members
- Assist with connecting current AZCC members with community partners to expand career pathways and opportunities
- Attend volunteer and community engagement events by other organizations to network and build relationships
- Assist with expanding AZCC’s visibility in other ways (i.e., expanding partnerships with outdoor recreation stores for in‑kind gear donations for crew members, features on local news stations, etc...)
- Enhance AZCC’s visibility in its service area and across the country through digital communications
- Assist with creating posts for AZCC’s social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, and Linked In)
- Assist with AZCC’s internal and external newsletter content
- Occasionally travel to the field to capture photo and video content of crews and IPs to create compelling communications materials
- Design flyers, social media graphics, and other marketing material
The Southern Arizona Community Outreach Individual Placement member will assist AZCC in expanding its outreach, recruitment, and communications efforts in and around the state, with an emphasis on rural and Indigenous communities in Southern Arizona. This will involve attending tabling, volunteer, and community engagement events, meeting with community members, presenting in schools, supporting with crew member and IP interviews during heavy recruitment times, networking, creating compelling reports and better marketing materials, organizing AZCC volunteer and community engagement events, creating communications content, and occasionally supporting members in the field when appropriate.
