About this role
The New Jersey Working Families Alliance is seeking a detail‑oriented, multi‑talented individual to fill a critical community and digital organizing role. The Community and Digital Organizer will organize regional coalitions, civic action sessions, assist with training for non‑partisan voter engagement, recruit new activists and volunteers, build leadership within grassroots groups, and support the We the People NJ Civic Engagement Table. The role also includes digital organizing and content creation.
The ideal candidate will possess community organizing and digital skills.
This position will be supervised by the New Jersey Working Families Alliance Director of Democracy Organizing and offers professional development in organizing, elections, legislative work, and communications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Work with the team on strategic goals and support NJWFA and NJWFP initiatives and candidates in New Jersey
- Build digital and grassroots support for NJWFP electoral programs
- Create compelling digital campaigns that tell the story of NJWFA and NJWFP progressive, bold campaigns, vision, and leaders with oversight from the Director of Democracy Organizing
- Produce creative content for NJWFA and NJWFP social networking sites
- Assist in the execution of rapid response social media
- Assist with building the We the People Civic Engagement table through digital and organizing
- Organize bi‑monthly regional coalition meetings with groups in North, Central and South Jersey
- Recruit and support members to lead local activist and volunteer community in coordination with Organizing and Technology staff leads
- Support identifying and building alliances with other organizations
- Evaluate changing conditions and modify plans accordingly
Fundraising
- Staff NJWFA and NJWFP fundraisers
- Participate in annual membership drives
- A sincere passion and commitment to fighting for social, economic, and racial justice and building power for working people
- Preferred: 3 to 5 years or more experience in digital organizing and storytelling
- 1–3 cycles of experience organizing, including field strategy and management experience
- Experience working in both electoral and issue campaigns that advance the progressive movement
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem‑solving skills
- A willingness to learn, the ability to work hard with irregular hours, and the ability to work independently with guidance as well as within a team
- Proven organizing ability and effectiveness engaging potential activists, supporters, institutional leaders and current and prospective elected officials
- Ability to train and develop skills of volunteer leaders
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate powerful relationships and build alliances with other organizations which can influence decision‑makers
- Aptitude with CRMs (Every Action, VAN/Votivate)
This is a hybrid no‑office role. You may work remotely, but you must be located in New Jersey to attend in‑person meetings and events approximately two days per week. You may need to travel for major events and all staff meetings frequently.
ScheduleThe position is a temporary, full‑time role that will conclude on July 1, 2027.
Union AffiliationWFP is a unionized workplace. This role is eligible to join WFP's staff bargaining unit after six months. WFP's union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board, Workers United union.
Salary and BenefitsThe annual salary range is $57,400 – $75,900, depending on location:
- Base Market B (e.g., Camden): $57,400.00 – $75,900.00
- Very High Market (e.g., Jersey City): $68,100.00 – $90,000.00
