The Good Neighbor Program connects people with disabilities who need the support of a community member in order to leave the nursing home. Volunteers may act as a backup caregiver. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in recruiting, training, supporting, and monitoring Good Neighbor volunteers across New York State.

This position works collaboratively with the Open Doors team, Independent Living Centers (ILCs), and other stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of services and the integrity of the program.

  • Respond to inquiries about the Good Neighbor Program.
  • Participate in meetings as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to the Independent Living philosophy and community integration for people with disabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with databases or data tracking systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally and statewide.
  • Experience working with Independent Living Centers or disability service systems preferred.
  • Experience with volunteer coordination or staff management preferred.
  • Personal experience with disability is a plus.
Salary and Benefits

NYAIL offers a competitive salary and benefits package including employer‑paid health insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance and short‑term disability insurance. The salary estimate for this position is $55,000-$60,000. This is a grant funded position with continuation contingent on funding.
