Summary:Habitat for Humanity of Iowa is seeking an experienced, mission-driven fundraising professional to serve as its part-time Development Coordinator. This role is uniquely focused on securing funding for non-construction initiatives, including housing advocacy, capacity building for Habitat affiliates, and disaster preparedness programming. This is not a typical Habitat fundraising role; the Development Coordinator will be responsible for identifying and cultivating new donors and partners who are passionate about creating housing solutions and statewide impact.
The position will also provide select support to team members involved in traditional Habitat fundraising but will not be the lead for those efforts.
Time Commitment:
This is a part-time salaried position averaging 20 hours per week. Some weeks may be more based on funding deadlines and special circumstances. A flexible schedule is available with supervisor approval.
The office location is Altoona, Iowa. Travel is expected, mostly in state. Occasional overnight travel may be required. There may be options for remote working if the ideal candidate is located outside of the Altoona area (45 min or further).
Salary Range for Part-Time position:$30,000-$35,000 based on experience. Salary may be increased after meeting key fundraising targets in the first and second year.
QualificationsRequired:
- 4 years of relevant experience in fundraising.
- The professional maturity to remain neutral and mission-focused regardless of personal political, religious, or cultural convictions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be results driven, with the ability to balance multiple tasks at once and the ability to research answers to unknown questions.
- Have a demonstrated ability to work independently and be willing to work in a team setting.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 products including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Share Point
- Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain).
- Successful completion of a criminal background check, including sex offender registry, state of residence, and FBI checks.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Demonstrated success with cultivating new donors and partnerships.
- Proven ability to raise over $500,000 annually.
- Professional experience with a nonprofit organization with a budget over $1M.
- Grant writing experience from non-government sources.
General:
- Be an advocate for and effectively communicate Habitat for Humanity’s mission and the importance of decent, affordable housing.
- Be comfortable with providing technical assistance and capacity building support to others.
- Attend appropriate training and professional development needed to be successful at the position.
- Implement the objectives and goals from the organization’s strategic plan.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and team to design and execute fundraising strategies.
- Build and manage a donor portfolio with a focus on new, high-capacity prospects.
- Secure funding to strengthen statewide programs, including:
- Housing Advocacy
- Capacity building and training for Habitat affiliates
- Disaster preparedness initiatives (Anticipated goal: $250,000 in new donor support)
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with event sponsors and donors. (Anticipated goal: $75,000 in new donors)
- Provide technical assistance, tools, and resources to affiliates to enhance their local fundraising efforts.
- Maintain a statewide database of funding opportunities.
- Share monthly fundraising tips, strategies, and best practices.
- Assist with special projects and cross-team initiatives as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
