Development Manager

Homeless Youth Connection (HYC) is seeking a passionate, relationship-driven Development Manager to grow philanthropic support for youth experiencing homelessness throughout Metro Phoenix and Flagstaff. This position is ideal for a dynamic fundraiser who enjoys building meaningful relationships, sharing a compelling mission, and inspiring individuals, businesses, and community partners to invest in lasting change. As a key member of the Development Department, the Development Manager cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of donors and sponsors while expanding HYC's network of supporters.

Working closely with organizational leadership, this individual develops strategies to increase donor engagement, strengthen community partnerships, and generate financial resources that help youth graduate from high school and achieve self-sufficiency. Serving as a visible ambassador for HYC, the Development Manager represents the organization through donor meetings, sponsorship development, presentations, networking opportunities, fundraising initiatives, and community events. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, skilled relationship-builder, and results-oriented professional who thrives in a public-facing role and can inspire generosity through authentic engagement and storytelling.

This full-time position requires occasional evening and weekend participation in fundraising and community activities. This position follows a hybrid work model that combines in-office collaboration with community engagement. Team members work from the HYC office to collaborate with the Development team, participate in planning meetings, and support organizational initiatives. The role also includes time in the community cultivating donor relationships, delivering presentations, attending networking and community events, and representing HYC with community partners.

Periodic travel to Flagstaff is required to cultivate donor relationships, participate in community outreach, and strengthen HYC's presence in Northern Arizona. Occasional work-from-home days may be available based on workload, scheduling needs, and supervisor approval.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Build, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, businesses, and community partners to increase fundraising support for HYC.
  • Manage an active portfolio of donors and prospects, including identification, cultivation, retention, upgrades, and personalized stewardship activities.
  • Develop and implement donor engagement strategies that support individual giving, corporate sponsor ships, employee giving programs, cause-related marketing initiatives, and other fundraising opportunities.
  • Conduct presentations, tours, networking meetings, and community outreach activities to increase awareness of HYC's mission, programs, and impact.
  • Collaborate with development team members to execute fundraising campaigns, donor communications, special events, and third-party fundraising efforts.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for HYC by actively participating in community events, networking opportunities, and professional associations.
  • Support organizational communications by contributing stories, content, and impact information for newsletters, appeals, emails, blogs, social media, and donor materials.
  • Maintain accurate donor and constituent records, ensuring timely acknowledgments, stewardship activities, reporting, and data management within the donor database.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of HYC programs, outcomes, youth homelessness issues, and fundraising best practices to effectively communicate the organization's mission and impact.
  • Track activities, outcomes, and fundraising performance metrics and provide regular reports on progress toward goals.

Necessary Skills and Requirements

  • Proven nonprofit fundraising experience, including donor cultivation, relationship management, donor communications, sponsorship development, and community engagement.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage individuals, businesses, community groups, and diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with a demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships, inspire support, and represent the organization professionally in public settings.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
