DOB has an essential role in implementing and enforcing New York City’s groundbreaking climate policies, including Local Law 97, which significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions from the city’s largest buildings. - Developing timely and accurate communications and public information campaigns concerning DOB sustainability policies, laws, programs, projects, events, and initiatives.
- Liaising between the Department of Buildings, City agencies, community organizations, building owners, service providers, and other stakeholders to support implementation of and compliance with sustainability laws.
- Assisting with developing and executing strategic plans for increasing compliance with sustainability laws, including directing and assisting staff in execution and tracking metrics, while continuously improving and maintaining accurate information gathering.
- Working with staff to effectively communicate with stakeholders, including through the creation of reference/user guides, fact sheets, bulletins, service notices, cohort-specific information packages, newsletters, social media content, and internal/external webinars and presentations.
- Assisting with writing required reports, website updates, and other written deliverables.
- Working with staff to do research, issue interpretations, and track inquiries submitted by the industry and building owners.
- Promoting Bureau accomplishments and events (including Earth Week and Climate Week) and assisting with tracking and cataloging media items.
- Researching and developing policy related to the financing and funding of energy efficiency and building decarbonization projects and liaising with stakeholders on financing and funding opportunities for building owners.
- Supporting advisory boards, working groups, and task forces.
- Supporting NYC Accelerator operations to inform, guide, and supplement DOB outreach efforts.
- Supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
- Assisting with other tasks and special projects, as needed.
Only candidates with at least six years of satisfactory, full‑time experience creating communication campaigns, developing and implementing policy, including policy related to financing, funding, and sustainability, and participating in significant stakeholder engagement with a track record of achieving results will be considered.
Preferred Skills- Excellent writing, research, and communication skills.
- Strong technical skills using PC software including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint, and web‑based video and meeting platforms including Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to think critically and analyze information, and to communicate complex and technical information in an accessible way to the public.
- Experience with supervising and/or training multiple employees.
- Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently and as part of a team on multiple assignments with minimal supervision to meet deadlines.
- Ability to rapidly understand strategic objectives and communicate creative idea solutions.
- Ability to condense complex and/or dense information in a brief and engaging way.
- Professional and positive attitude and the ability to take direction and feedback from various sources.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people of diverse personal, educational, and cultural backgrounds in a professional manner.
- Experience working in finance.
- Knowledge of and passion for sustainability and climate issues.
This position may be eligible for remote work up to two days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.
