Tikkun Ha‑Ir (“Repair of the City”) is a Jewish social justice and social action organization (501c3) that builds a more just community by uniting Jews of all backgrounds in study, action, and civic engagement.
For more than 20 years, Tikkun Ha‑Ir has engaged Milwaukee’s Jewish community in meaningful service, learning, and advocacy while building partnerships across religious beliefs, neighborhoods, and communities. Through programs focused on food justice, volunteerism, education, and civic engagement, we empower people to turn Jewish values into action.

The OpportunityTikkun Ha‑Ir seeks a passionate, relationship‑driven leader to serve as its next Executive Director. The Executive Director will guide the organization’s next chapter by strengthening community partnerships, cultivating volunteers and donors, supporting impactful programs, and serving as a visible ambassador for Jewish social justice in Milwaukee. This is an exciting opportunity for a leader who believes in the power of community engagement, values collaboration, and can inspire others to translate Jewish values into meaningful action.
WhatYou’ll Do Community Leadership & Relationship Building (25%)
- Serve as the public face and primary spokesperson for Tikkun Ha‑Ir, representing the organization at community events, meetings, and collaborative initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Jewish organizations, community partners, funders, congregations, volunteers, and civic leaders.
- Strengthen partnerships that advance the organization’s mission and expand its impact.
- Responsible for annual fundraising efforts, including individual donor cultivation and stewardship; identify, write, and manage grant opportunities.
- Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement fundraising strategies; build a culture of philanthropy that inspires investment in Tikkun Ha‑Ir’s mission.
- Oversee Tikkun Ha‑Ir’s programs and initiatives, including food justice, volunteer engagement, educational programming, and civic engagement efforts.
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and partners to evaluate and strengthen programs.
- Ensure organizational activities align with the mission, values, and strategic priorities.
- Manage day‑to‑day operations of the organization.
- Supervise staff, consultants, interns, and volunteers.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission‑driven organizational culture.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit best practices.
Work closely with the Treasurer and Board to develop and monitor the annual budget and monthly financial reports.
Maintain the financial health and sustainability of the organization. Provide regular reports and updates to the Board of Directors.
What We’re Looking For- Deep knowledge of Jewish values, traditions, and communal life.
- Passion for community building, social justice, and service.
- Experience in nonprofit leadership, community organizing, fundraising, education, or related fields.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing projects, volunteers, staff, or teams.
- Proven ability in fundraising, donor engagement, and grant writing.
- Experience in building relationships across diverse communities.
- Familiarity with the Milwaukee community and nonprofit landscape.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaboration.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s in Nonprofit Management, Public Policy, Community Leadership or related field highly desirable.
- Three or more years of nonprofit, community, educational, congregational, or related leadership experience.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Lead a respected Jewish social justice organization with more than two decades of community impact.
- Build relationships across Milwaukee’s Jewish and civic communities.
- Work alongside dedicated volunteers, board members, and community partners.
- Help shape the future of Jewish civic engagement, service, and justice work in Milwaukee.

Position Type: 80% FTE to Full‑Time ( 37.5 hours/week)
Salary: $40,000–$55,000 annually commensurate with experience and # of hours
