Healthful Stories is a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) patient advocacy nonprofit dedicated to surfacing the real patient journey. We conduct structured, longitudinal interviews with individuals living with chronic and complex health conditions as a means of providing critical information to others navigating the same illnesses. Our work produces rich, firsthand accounts of what it means to seek care, manage symptoms, and navigate a health system that often falls short.
Policy is where that work becomes change. Washington State is home to a health system actively grappling with access, equity, and the structural gaps that patient stories reveal and Healthful Stories is positioned to contribute meaningfully to that conversation. We’re looking for a Health Policy & Coalition Manager based in Washington State who can help us translate patient narratives into policy relevance, build relationships with allied organizations, and amplify our voice in state‑level health policy discussions.
As our Health Policy & Coalition Manager, you will monitor Washington State health policy developments relevant to our interview focus areas, identify coalition partners among patient advocacy organizations, health equity groups, and public health networks, and help develop Healthful Stories’ policy positioning and public communications. This is a relationship‑driven role with real strategic influence on a growing nonprofit.
You bring- Background in health policy, public health, health administration, or a related field — graduate students and early‑career professionals strongly encouraged
- Familiarity with Washington State health policy landscape, including the Health Care Authority, state legislature, and relevant advocacy organizations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in coalition‑building, community organizing, or stakeholder engagement is a plus
- Comfort operating with autonomy in a small, founder‑led nonprofit
Direct policy experience at a nonprofit operating at the intersection of patient voice and health advocacy, the kind of work that stands out on applications to health policy fellowships, MPH and MPA programs, government health agency roles, and health system strategy positions. You’ll work directly with our Executive Director and have meaningful input into how Healthful Stories engages the policy world.
