Location: New York

Everytown for Gun Safety is looking for two (2) Organizing Managers to join the Advocacy Campaigns team to continue the development and success of the organization. Each Organizing Manager oversees several state-level volunteer chapters of Moms Demand Action, which also includes Everytown Survivor Network volunteers and collaborating with Students Demand Action volunteers, focusing on growing our volunteer base in their states, training chapter leaders and chapter leadership teams to meet the organization’s goals in each state to build an inclusive, and equitable chapter that represents the diversity of the state.

Organizing Managers work with chapter leadership to develop strategic growth plans and grassroots organizing as well as electoral campaigns for each state. They assess needs, collaboratively set priorities, identify resources, and aid the chapters in their communications, partnerships, educational and advocacy efforts. Organizing Managers conduct site visits to their states, hold regular meetings with leaders, and run campaigns alongside members of other Everytown teams.

Organizing Managers receive training and resources upon starting, including background on the gun violence prevention movement, Everytown’s policy positions, managing for equity and inclusion, and volunteer management training. It is incumbent upon the Organizing Manager to provide good customer service/support to our volunteers, including timely and thoughtful communication.

This position is based in our NY or DC offices with a hybrid schedule, though remote work may be considered for the right candidate. This role requires some traveling, flexibility working across different time zones, and availability for occasional evening and weekend work.

RESPONSIBILITIES Chapter growth and building power:
  • Implement innovative strategies to recruit new volunteers and to take action on our priority campaigns
  • Collaboratively create and oversee implementation of growth plans for chapters in the region, including developing the chapter in both breadth and depth of knowledge
  • Ensure volunteer chapters are building sustainable diverse grassroots field power for the organization to prevent gun violence
  • Utilize data about gun violence chapter growth and volunteer retention to direct the chapter’s focus and energy on organizational priorities
Develop volunteer leaders:
  • Mentor, train and manage volunteer leaders so that they can best support and grow volunteer engagement; regularly assess volunteer engagement and development needs of volunteer leadership.
  • Build diverse teams using management skills for equity and inclusion and equip volunteer leaders with the same skill set and knowledge
  • Value different perspectives and proactively engage people with a variety of backgrounds and experiences in order to build a strong movement, while teaching volunteers to do the same
  • Lead by example through demonstrations of integrity and professionalism
  • Share direct feedback with others and listen to and implement feedback given
Organizing strategy and campaign development:
  • Work closely with the Field Leadership Team, regional Organizing Directors and cross departmental teams to develop national and local strategies for various campaigns and programs
  • Collaboratively set long and short-term priorities with chapters; ensure work on the ground stays focused on agreed upon priorities, while maintaining flexibility needed to rapidly respond to new opportunities and challenges
  • Seed, encourage and support tactical innovations from volunteers and help replicate those successes elsewhere
  • Ensure campaign plans are in touch with realities on the ground; act as a bridge between volunteers and other stakeholders to make sure the organization’s plans are realistic and set up to succeed, advocating for volunteer needs to the larger organization.
Represent Moms Demand Action and Everytown:
  • Serve as a thought partner between volunteer leaders and the rest of the organization; continually build confidence and excitement about our work, priorities and organizational choices
