Position: Youth Field Organizer (Remote in Southeast Virginia)

We provide research, strategy, creative, production, web, traditional media, social media, policy change, youth engagement and experiential marketing services to government, non‑profit and healthcare clients in over 35 states and provinces and to federal government agencies.

Rescue’s health behavior change marketing campaigns focus on topics such as tobacco, obesity, substance and alcohol prevention, the promotion of exercise, healthy eating, early childhood development, after‑school programs and other initiatives that promote healthy living. Our campaigns target diverse populations within teens (13‑17), young adults (18‑26) and adults (18+) in both rural and urban areas, resulting in a wide variety of campaign styles and strategies.

Job

Rescue Agency is seeking a dynamic and high‑performing Youth Field Organizer to drive the implementation of tobacco control and nutrition/obesity prevention policy campaigns across Virginia. We are looking for individuals who are collaborative, open to new challenges, and passionate about engaging and motivating youth volunteers to lead policy campaign activities in their schools and communities.

What You’ll Gain

  • Community organizing expertise through Rescue’s award‑winning youth engagement model, preparing you for a career in community organizing, advocacy or public policy.
Day‑to‑Day Activities Recruit & Train Youth Volunteers
  • Recruit and train new and returning youth, including site visits, in‑person and virtual training sessions and promotional efforts.
  • Assist the Youth Engagement Manager and program team with developing site visits and training materials, including presentations, activities and promotional gear.
  • Track and monitor training participants and new members, including training projects.
  • Maintain accurate records and data for program youth members using the Online Volunteer Management system.
Mobilize & Support Youth Volunteers
  • Recruit and encourage youth to sign up for campaign projects and events to maintain high participation rates throughout the school year.
  • Assist youth with planning, organizing and implementing events and meetings; provide technical and on‑the‑ground support as needed.
  • Work closely with the Youth Engagement Manager in planning and preparing Youth Street Leadership Team members for the Day at the Capitol.
  • Plan, organize and implement Leadership Team Summits, including developing and preparing presentations, activities, promotional gear, attending Summits and leading sessions.
  • Maintain frequent contact with youth members to keep them motivated and engaged.
Communication and Relationship‑building with Partner School Advisors
  • Work closely with the Program Supervisor to onboard advisors.
  • Track partner schools’ progress toward achieving milestones.
  • Help foster and maintain relationships and collaboration between school advisors and youth members.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for one‑on‑one and group settings; ability to work successfully within a team.
  • Excellent team‑building, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Commitment to mobilizing youth through strategic organizing.
  • Ability to motivate youth to lead and support self‑determination while enforcing accountability systems.
  • Ability to multi‑task, prioritize assignments and demonstrate initiative.
  • Flexibility and willingness to shift and pivot in response to changing climate and program needs.
  • High‑level competency with Microsoft Office, G Suite or equivalent.
  • Excellent time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work through the entirety of the school year.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet urgent deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently (up to 60 % of the school year) across the state.
