The Invasive Species Centre  (ISC) mobilizes action against invasive species that harm the environment, economy, and society. Incorporated as a not-for-profit in 2011 as a hub for collaboration and knowledge sharing, the Invasive Species Centre has grown into a respected collaborator and leader in invasive species knowledge and action. Job Summary:

The Indigenous Partnerships Intern will support the Invasive Species Centre’s work with Indigenous communities and organizations by helping build andmaintainrespectful relationships, supporting community engagement activities, andassistingwith the integration of Indigenous knowledge and priorities into invasive species programming. The candidate will help promote access to grant opportunities, provide support to funded Indigenous projects, contribute to event planning and internal communications, andparticipatein regional travel for meetings, workshops, and partnership activities as needed.

Ideal candidates bring knowledgeandlivedexperience of Indigenous communities, cultures and peoples, curiosity, humility, and a commitment to learning from Indigenous communities. They are comfortable working collaboratively, supporting culturally safe engagement, and helping bridge Western science with Indigenous knowledge to advance shared goals in invasive species prevention, education, and ecosystem protection.

Support relationship-building with Indigenous communities, organizations, Elders, and knowledge holders through regular communication and respectful engagement

Assist with integrating Indigenous knowledge and priorities into invasive species programs, outreach materials, and project planning.

Promote and support access to ISC grant programs by sharing funding opportunities, answering applicant questions, and helping communities navigate the application process.

Provide ongoing support to funded Indigenous projects, including check‑ins, gathering updates, and helping steward repeat applicants.

Coordinate community engagement activities, such as workshops, gatherings, cultural events, and meetings related to forest health and invasive species.

Contribute to event planning and logistics, including scheduling, preparing materials, and supporting culturally grounded approaches to programming.

Maintain clear internal communication by sharing updates with project teams, tracking partnership activities, and contributing Indigenous perspectives to program development.

Participate in regional travel to attend meetings, community events, and partnership activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidatemustbe enrolled in a post-secondary academic studyin a programdirectly relatedto the position.

The study program must be in theSTEAMorBusiness fields

Indigenous cultural awareness: lived experience and knowledge of Indigenous traditions, programs,communities and networks

Strong writing skills to synthesize complex information in a way that is interesting and accessible for non-technical audiences

Demonstrated computerproficiencyand experience with Microsoft Office software and Adobe software is considered an asset

Strong organizational skills and experience with Microsoft Excel

Knowledge of invasive species issues

Strong interpersonal and communication skills
