College & Career Readiness Intern

The IRC’s College and Career Readiness (CCR) Program supports newly arrived refugee youth ages 15-24 as they prepare for future educational and career goals. The program emphasizes education, life skills, and social-emotional development, with monthly workshops, outdoor adventure activities, individual college & career support appointments, and a mentorship program that provides long-term support. The CCR program empowers refugee youth to transition into adulthood and achieve personal and professional aspirations.

The CCR Internship with the IRC Utah Youth Program provides hands-on experience supporting newly arrived refugee youth as they navigate educational and career pathways. Interns work with the Workforce Development team to deliver individualized and group-based support that promotes academic success, career exploration, and life skills development. Responsibilities include coordinating workshops and outdoor adventures, conducting program intakes, mentorship opportunities, and case documentation in a multicultural setting.

This internship is ideal for individuals interested in youth development, education, social work, or related fields and offers experience working with refugee and immigrant populations. This is an unpaid internship opportunity.

• Meet with students for college and career support.
• Conduct program intakes to establish baselines for growth and service provision.
• Engage clients in monthly workshops and outdoor adventures by coordinating outreach via texts, phone calls, and transportation support.
• Assist in delivering content by presenting sections of monthly workshops.
• Maintain accurate and timely program case notes for intakes, workshops, events, and assessments.
• Participate in staff development and team meetings when available.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the College and Career Readiness Coordinator.

• Must be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program or have graduated less than 6 months ago.
• Clear English communication; fluency in an additional foreign language is preferred.
• Background check required.
• Strong passion for working with teenage youth; prior experience in youth engagement or mentorship is a plus.
• Experience working in a multicultural environment, particularly with refugee and immigrant populations, preferred.
• Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working independently.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
• Availability for some evening and weekend commitments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Valid Utah Driver’s License and access to a vehicle; willingness to drive clients.

A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and field time within the service delivery area. Occasional weekend and/or evening work required. This position reports to the Workforce Development Program Manager.

COVID-19 vaccination:
New hires must provide proof of vaccination to be considered for in-office or hybrid positions. All IRC U.S. offices require complete vaccination to attend in-office functions.
