Overview

Voice Up’s Community Awareness Public Health Internship is a remote, community‑centered program that prepares students to help individuals and families understand the upcoming 2027 Medicaid changes before they affect access to care. It is open to students earning academic credit, volunteering, or officially enrolled in Voice Up’s School forHumans

Flourishing.

Interns engage directly with community partners—healthcare providers, schools, faith communities, libraries, food banks, and nonprofit agencies—to distribute reliable information, host outreach events, and connect people with official Medicaid resources. The internship emphasizes service, collaboration, leadership, and practical community engagement, giving students meaningful professional experience.

• Build partnerships with community health centers, free clinics, hospitals, schools, colleges, libraries, food pantries, legal aid organizations, faith‑based organizations, and other local agencies that serve Medicaid populations.
• Organize and facilitate educational presentations using plain language that explain the upcoming Medicaid changes, the Know Check Act framework, and available community resources.
• Host outreach tables at health fairs, neighborhood festivals, back‑to‑school events, community celebrations, and other public gatherings to provide educational materials and answer questions.
• Assist individuals one‑on‑one by helping them locate official Medicaid offices, community health centers, enrollment resources, and other support services.
• Recruit and mentor student volunteers to contribute to outreach efforts beyond the internship period, ensuring sustainable impact.
• Collect community feedback on questions, concerns, and barriers people experience while navigating Medicaid resources and report findings to Voice Up so educational materials improve.
• Participate in weekly team meetings, professional development sessions, and community planning activities while documenting outreach activities and measurable impact.
