Education and Community Manager

• This is a hybrid role that involves both on-site presence for workdays and site visits, and remote work for office-based tasks.

Aloha Tree Alliance (ATA) seeks a dynamic, creative, and mission-driven Education & Community Manager to lead youth and community education programs, strengthen relationships with the communities we serve, and expand opportunities for people to connect with and care for Hawaiʻi’s forests and watersheds.

This role is ideal for a passionate environmental educator, community builder and communicator who can translate ATA’s work into meaningful experiences and compelling narratives. Through hands‑on programs, community events, partnerships, and digital communications, the Education & Community Manager will help diverse audiences—from students and families to volunteers, educators, partners, and supporters—understand the importance of environmental stewardship and see themselves as part of the work.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will divide its time among developing and managing ATA’s education programs (K‑12 programming & internships), cultivating community participation and partnerships, and leading the organization’s communications strategy. The role requires strong organizational, facilitation, and writing skills; an engaging and adaptable communication style; cultural sensitivity and respect for Native Hawaiian values; a collaborative approach to developing content and curricula with colleagues and community partners;

and comfort working in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Education Programs (60%)

• Develop, coordinate, and deliver ATA’s environmental education programs for K‑12 students, higher‑education students, and community members.
• Lead classroom visits and field‑based learning experiences at the Kuliʻouʻou Ridge Trail restoration site, ATA’s Native Hawaiian Plant Nursery, and other program locations.
• Manage ATA’s ʻĀina Allies Internship Program, including recruitment, scheduling, program delivery, partner coordination, and participant support.
• Develop engaging, age‑appropriate curricula and educational materials on topics including Native Hawaiian plants, forest ecosystems, watershed health, climate change, and community stewardship.
• Build and maintain relationships with schools, educators, higher‑education institutions, youth programs, and community partner organizations.
• Manage education‑program calendars, registration, logistics, supplies, and budgets in coordination with ATA staff and partners.
• Collect participant feedback and track participation, learning outcomes, and other program metrics for program improvement, grant reports, board updates, and organizational planning.
• Represent ATA at school fairs, community events, conferences, and other education and outreach opportunities.

Community Engagement & Communications (40%)

• Lead ATA’s communications and community outreach strategy, using social media, newsletters, annual reports, and other storytelling channels to educate broader audiences about ATA’s mission and impact and create meaningful pathways for continued involvement.
• Manage ATA’s digital communications channels, including Instagram, the ATA blog, email newsletters, and relevant website content, and maintain an editorial calendar that supports consistent, timely, and compelling outreach.
• Develop written and visual content—including photographs, short‑form videos, impact stories, and educational materials—that makes ATA’s conservation work accessible and relevant to diverse audiences.
• Gather participant feedback, stories, photographs, and testimonials in the field.
