Canvasser - Voter Registration 2026

Tulare/Hybrid

Temporary, Part-Time, Non-Exempt, At-Will

The Internal Program Canvasser engages the community on campaign messaging per a legally-vetted script and carries out related follow-up outreach activities by conducting classroom presentations, doing tabling, doing outreach at events, going door-to-door, making phone calls, and/or texting under the supervision of the Team lead. The person in this role should be strongly motivated to do community organizing work, able to converse enthusiastically in person, over the phone, and by text to contact and mobilize the community.

Training and scripts are provided. This position is central to mass mobilizing young voters of color via volunteer recruitment, community organizing, and community voter events.

Essential Duties

Community Outreach (30%)

  • Participates in weekly training sessions on community organizing skills in order to move the community to take action on local issues.
  • Performs community outreach at classrooms, events, high visibility locations, and tabling.
  • Performs door-to-door canvassing primarily, and in occasions web-based phone and text-banking to contact the community
  • Able to work 4 to 6 hour sessions, usually 4 days a week
  • Maintains professional and engaging conversations with the community members and peers & adheres to script
  • Will document voter contact data and report on a daily basis to lead staff
  • Attends and mobilizes community members to attend campaign events that can include City Council Meetings, Cultural Pop-ups, rallies, and others.

Volunteer Recruitment (30%)

  • Helps recruit and train student leaders by conducting outreach activities at local schools, colleges, and community events. Participates in the planning and coordinating of civic engagement trainings and student-led voter outreach activities on school campuses, in conjunction with educators and school staff
  • Conducts volunteer recruitment through door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, texting, and community events outreach
  • Carries out professional and engaging conversations with voters and peers
  • Enters voter contact data and pledge forms
  • Supports administrative pieces of campaign work such as making photocopies, organizing materials, etc. as assigned

Youth Leadership Development (30%)

  • Leads organizing orientations and trainings for young people
  • Helps implement our leadership development program for youth leaders

Other Duties (10%)

  • Documents student-led activities and narratives for our social media channels, as directed by communications staff
  • Provides support at organizational events as needed
  • Works in good faith to support the overall stability and effectiveness of the organization
  • Submits any and all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
  • Additional duties as assigned

Work Environment:

  • Position is located at home office in Tulare, California
