Location: Hybrid (Camden, ME and partial remote work)

FLSA: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Reports to: Development Director

Compensation: $26/hour, 20-24 hours per week

Hurricane Island Outward Bound School (HIOBS) is a non-profit educational organization and an independent member of the world-renowned Outward Bound network (OBUSA). Founded in 1964, our educational approach is rooted in the challenging and supportive environment of the outdoors and grounded in the science of experiential learning development. The skills students learn on HIOBS courses help them demonstrate long-term outcomes that include self-actualization, social responsibility, and leadership.

Our vision is a more resilient and compassionate world, with more resilient and compassionate citizens. HIOBS annual revenues are currently in the $4-5 million range with a mix of both earned revenue (tuition) and raised revenue (contributions and grants). We primarily operate wilderness-based programs in Maine and Central American (Costa Rica and Panama through a strategic partnership with Outward Bound Costa Rica) with extended program operations the Bahamas.

HIOBS is also a leader in experientially based leadership and team development programs for businesses and organizations across the country. HIOBS currently employs 27 fulltime staff and over 100 seasonal employees.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Development Coordinator to support our fundraising efforts and help strengthen relationships with our donors. If you enjoy administrative work, working with data, and contributing to a mission-driven organization, we'd love to hear from you.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Coordinator provides administrative and operational support to the Development Director to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of fundraising activities. This position maintains donor records, processes gifts, prepares acknowledgments, coordinates mailings and events, and assists with donor stewardship and development communications.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys staying organized, working with databases, and supporting a collaborative team dedicated to making a meaningful impact.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process gifts, pledges, and donor information accurately in Salesforce following standard procedures.
  • Prepare and send donor acknowledgment letters and tax receipts in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate donor, constituent, and campaign records in Salesforce.
  • Assist with donor mailings, newsletters, invitations, and fundraising appeals.
  • Prepare mailing lists, reports, and materials for the Development Director, Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and committees.
  • Support the coordination of fundraising events, meetings, and stewardship activities.
  • Track calendars, project deadlines, and follow-up tasks for development initiatives.
  • Assist with assembling grant materials, donor packets, and presentation materials.
  • Maintain electronic files, records, and other administrative documentation.
  • Perform other administrative duties in support of the Development team.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and outstanding customer service.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, administrative, or office environment.
  • Experience using Salesforce or another CRM/database.
  • Experience with donor acknowledgments, data entry, or customer service.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • This is a part-time, hourly position of 20-24 hours per week.
  • Hourly rate is $26/hour.
  • Possibility for partial remote work with some hours in the Camden, ME office required.
